The wind howls loudly out in the night as the girl sits on her balcony and stares at the sky. She starts humming a soft lullaby, the melody swimming away in the darkness. Under her, a man stares up at her and seems to be thinking. He catches the melody, and hums along, as if he knew the melody as well as the girl. A whisper behind him catches his attention and he turns around.

"Goddammit" he mutters under his breath. Why now? The girl sitting on the balcony is the one he came to protect personally, no older than 16 years old. He didn't assign any of his men for this job, it was too important. No one knew about it either, he hadn't trusted anyone to tell them where he was going - and what he was doing. The risk of rumors spreading was too large to take. A chuckle sounds behind him again, but this time, the man is fast enough to throw out his hand and hold the figure still.

"Are you sure you want to do this, old man?" it asks. "In my eyes, there are far more of us than you could ever take on alone."

At these words, the man looks around, noticing how about twenty more of the figures surround him. The one he was holding was right, he had no chance against all of them. Closing his eyes, the man's mind races. He knows, deep down, that this will be his last night, but he holds no fear. His mind is focused on how he will protect the girl from being found. It is why he had come here, so he should fulfill his task before perishing. An idea starts to form in his head, but the man knows that he will need more time to do it. He gathers enough power, and shoots it straight out of both of his hands to one side. With an incredible speed he bolts through the way he just made himself. He runs as fast as possible, hiding at the entrance of the building, near the garbage cans. As soon as he is seated, he starts chanting to himself, and cutting his finger open with a pocketknife, uses the blood to draw shapes and symbols on his arms and face. He chants and chants, even after finishing the symbols on his skin. After less
than thirty minutes the figures finally find him. They begin to tear the man apart, first his skin, then limbs and until the very end, when there is nothing left of the man. All along he chants, up till the very end, when he draws his last painful breath.
