The beast stirred. It felt a presence, a familiar yet foreign one, some must have escaped. They must be mature by now. Perhaps he should rits again, after all it had been many centuries since the world last felt his icy breath.

The young elven boy woke from his trance-like state that the elves do instead of sleep. It was dawn, a very important dawn, for today was this young boy's eighteenth birthday. He slipped out and set out for the cliff near town. On his way he found a note from his loving mother reading 'Dear Otarin,
Happy birthday, I know you usually wake at dawn so I left you this note since you will wake before me and your father. Hope you have a wonderful day, love mom.'
Otarin merely shook his head and chuckled, he rarely had a good day. He had no career, though he desperately wanted to be an adventurer, and was terrible with any sort of weapon. Otarin continued on to the cliff, he knew he would be alone, until Kasre'al the pesky elven female who fancied herself a monk showed up a few hours after the dawn. That is why he was suprised when an unfamiliar voice calls out to him.
"Otarin, I have come with a gift from your father, I am an old friend of his." The voice stated. Otarin turned around to see an elf clad in all black with a hood drawn tight against his head, holding a strange wooden box that he promptly handed to Otarin.
"Who are you and how do you know my father? The only elves in this village are myself and my family and Kasre'al and her family." Otarin said in a stunned voice.
"Correction sea boy, you and Kasre'al along with her family are the only elves. Those who claim to be your parents simply are not your parents nor are they elves." Said the mysterious stranger, "inside the box you will find your fathers many wands, his robe, and his spellbook, which has been erased of all magical spells but a few minor ones. You are to travel to a wizards tower for training tomorrow at dawn, meet me on the south end of town then and we will set out. Do not be late, it would prove disastrous for all involved." The man turned and practically vanished into the nearby shadows.
"Hey Otarin, who in the world was that?" Said the familiar voice of the pesky female monk, Kasre'al.
"Hello Kas." Otarin sighed, "I have no idea who that was, but he nust turned my world upside down. I have much to think about, I will see you tomorrow." Otarin promptly turned around and walked home, leaving the sputtering Kasre'al behind him.
-----------------------------------------------------------
"You must go with him and see that he remains safe," said Kas' mother to her daughter, "The prince must receive proper training if he is to survive and bring about the revival of our kingdom."
"I know mother it has been our mission for many a generation to see to the protection of our royalty, I will not fail you." With that Kas walked up the stairs to pack. She was finally getting to leave behind this boring village, even if she did have to deal with that annoying, and ignorant boy, Otarin.
