Heart's Embrace

Chapter 1. Introductions

A long while back, when "magic" was not criticised and people commonly used what you can call alchemy, there lived a family. In this family there was the grandmother, Granny Bloodstone, two brothers, Sebastian and Rydian, and the boys' cousin, Lu.
Though Lu and Granny couldn't produce the alchemy that the boys could, Granny knew much about this magic and taught them all she knew, even teaching them to be able to conjure without having to draw the standard alchemy circles. The boys had always used their alchemy for good among the community, though it was spread across the country side. It had been Granny's teachings that had helped them become such gentlemen.
One thing Granny hadn't taught any of them, not even Lu, was of the mythic creatures that inhabited the world. Granny hoped they would never have to encounter them.
These creatures were said to live beside the humans, without causing havoc and worry. They were nonetheless not keen on humans straying too close, often killing them. Some of these creatures were civil, and could live like humans. Vampires, werewolves, elves, and others were quite civil. Rarely was there an incident of a human killed by vampires or werewolves. The elven people were always kind, so long as you cared for their land and treated it well. People were more likely to be killed by a wild animal than a mythical creature.
Granny had faith her family wouldn't have an encounter with any of the unnatural creatures living in this world. After the boys did their chores Granny decided to let them go into town, wary.
"Boys, you be careful now. And come home before dark. Sebastian, watch your brother. He's younger than you and I know how you like the maidens."
"Haha Granny, you sure know how to joke. You know I won't let Rydian out of my sight. I always have my brother's back." Sebastian smirked and looked at Rydian.
"I'm not just a youngster! Sebastian's only two years older than me!" The boy was frustrated. "I know what liking someone is like. Sebastian is just a ladies guy."
"Okay, okay. You two go ahead and spend time in town. You know the rest." Granny ushered the boys out and watched them walk for a moment before closing the door. They knew not the events that were going to ensue.
