Alex's POV

The whole school day went by like a blur and at the end of the day I see Luke come up to me.

"Bro did you see Meg's new boytoy?" Luke tells me smirking.

"Yeah, do you think she ever put  effort in our relationship?" I say putting the saddest face ever.

"I don't know Alex," he says shrugging. "Man, you're gonna have to get over her. Anyone on mind right now?" He says to me.

"No-" I hesitate. "Actually I do. She's gorgeous, but she's nothing but insecure." I tell him, my mood suddenly changing.

"Aiono, who is it this time?" He says it in an "you have another girl again" tone. 

"No she's different." I tell him. "She knows how to comfort people. She's so unlike other girls but that's what I like about her."

"So who's the girl?" He asks me.

"Hazel." I told him plainly.

"Hazel?" He says raising eyebrows. "Bro you're serious?" He says laughing. "Hazel?" He asks once more. "Hazel as in that one chick who comes to school hella early everyday and sits under that tree and reads books Hazel?" He explains. "That Hazel?"

"Yeah, what's the problem?" I say questioningly.

"She's just, not like any of the girls you'd date. Alex she's the exact opposite of you."

"But she's changing me Luke. She's helping me." I tell him smiling.

"Are you sure you actually like her? Or is she just a little act for you to get over Meg?" He says scratching the back of his head. "Because if she is-" he pauses. "Don't do it." He says, his mood changing. "She's an actual sweetheart and I wouldn't like it for her to get broken by you." He tells me.

"We'll see." I say. "Listen man, I gotta run." I say and walk home.

Hazel's POV

Throughout the whole day Alex was mugging through it all.

He was alone at the lunch table and I offered to sit next to him. He just gave me the most disgusted look ever and shook his head.

He was back to his normal mean Alex. Not the Alex I met yesterday. The sweet caring Alex. I didn't know what was wrong.

I was planning on texting him but I changed my mind because he looked like he didn't want to have anything to do with me anymore.

I was walking home and I see Alex walking too. I covered my face with my hoodie and I looked down to the ground.

"Hazel?" He says and I start walking faster. "Hazel! Hey! Can we talk?" He says.

"Uhm actually, I really gotta get going to my gram's house." I tell him trying to look for an excuse. I didn't want him to scold me, because I knew that's what he was gonna talk about.

"Listen I'm sorry if I was a dick today okay? I was wondering if I can actually talk to you because my feelings are getting worse. And you're the only one who understands me in this world right now." He says, his voice nearly cracking and shaking  because he seemed like he was about to cry.

Hearing him wanna cry made me wanna cry.

"Come here Alex." I say with my arms open, and for the first time in all the years I've lived, he gave me a genuine hug and he sobbed into my shoulder.

"We could hang at my apartment if you want, but I have to make a stop at my grandma's house first because my brother's there and I visit him everyday. Then we could hang at mine if you want?"
