Dear Diary.
In three days it will be my fourteenth birthday, so mother gave you too me. She said to keep you as my closest companion, so that when she's away I can keep track of what's happened and tell her when she returns. My name is Mistica Angela Renee Roberts; I live in Shana, North Carolina. In my household there is five; my mother (when she is not away), my father, my nanny Carlial, the maid Tess, and of course me.
I can hear Mother calling, she is about to leave on another trip! Hope she will return soon. ~MARR
I closed my new diary and sighed. This was the second time this month that Mother has left for a trip. I threw off my covers and walked downstairs, I could see Mother in the parlor. She swayed slightly as Father hugged her, almost as if they were dancing to a secret song that only they could hear. I hugged the banister as I watched, she giggled as Father whispered in her ear. They pull apart when they see me.
"Hello Darling!" Mother says opening her arms wide. I run to her and drape my arms around her; my nose fills with the scent of her perfume, lilac.
I smile into her shoulder. "Do you have to go?"
She pulled away and holds me at arms length. "Don't worry, Mistica. I'll be back in three days, just in time for your birthday ball." She kissed my cheek gently before whispering in my ear. "I'll bring you back something special."
I smiled. Mother always brought me back treasures from when she was away, I have a whole bookcase full of treasures. A Jade dragon from Hong Kong; a scarf that was hand made in India; a diamond tiara from Belgium; and so many more. "Where are you heading this time?"
"South America." She says with a dreamy look. "Maybe I'll get to wear something extremely unique." She gives my shoulder a squeeze, she stands up and looks to Carlial. "Take care of my girl. Got it?" She smiles her beautiful, model smile and winks jokingly.
Carlial nods. "Of course, Mrs. Amara."
Mother picks up her suitcase and pecks my forehead before walking out the door. Her long black dress swished behind her and her hips swayed as she walked to the car.
As the car drove away; Father retreated to his studies; Tess to the kitchen to make dinner; and Carlial to the library, no doubt to read her 'to old for me' vampire novels. I stood in the parlor and continued to look out the window.
Nothing was really happening; squirrels were chasing each other around the yard; a bird was feeding its young in the big oak tree; a car was pulling up to the house next door.
Wait, a car was pull up next door..... That house has been abandoned for the last three or four years, after Mrs. Poppy died in the upstairs master bath. Everyone was convinced it was haunted.
I walked out into the yard and watched as a family climbed out of a car. There was a women in a black suit, a man in one as well both talking on the phone; followed by a spiky haired little boy pretending that his toy plane could fly; and a sulking girl that looked to be my age. I stepped closer and the women (most likely the mom) looked at me.
She held the phone away from her ear and turned to the girl. "Violet, go greet the neighbors." She ordered before going back to her conversation. The girl, Violet, turned to me and stared before sulking over to the fence that seperated our two yards.
"Hi." She says avoiding my eyes. She pulls her hood down further to cover her face.
"Hello." I say back, extending a hand. "My name is Mistica."
"Mistica?" She scoffed ignoring my hand. "What kind of name is that?"
I frown. "It was my grandmother's name."
"Ha, you should go to city hall and change it." My mouth must have been hanging open because she smiled. "See ya 'round princess." She turns and leaves, looking almost triumphant.
"Don't mind Vi." I turn and see the little boy, his plane hung forgotten at his side. "They're just upset because they had to leave all their friends behind, when we moved."
They? I nod. "I see."
He smiles and turns to leave. "By the way," he turns back. "I'm Keith."
"Nice to meet you Keith."
