He remembers the first time he was called annoying.
He remembers how his breath was cut short in his chest long before it came close to leaving his mouth. How the light faded from his eyes while his cheeks remained tinted with red. The way his throat tightened, the words and arguments getting caught, lost on his tongue. He was only eleven, and his eyes never left the floor that day.
He is twenty-three now, and she can see how the light still drains from his eyes as realization overshadows him when he talks about his interests for too long. She notices how the sentences to come are littered with apologies, words fading away off the edge of a cliff he hasn't jumped from in twelve years.
She could listen to him all day, though, she knows that speaking for more than two uninterrupted minutes leaves him riddled with anxiety. Insecurities and panic encasing his chest and restricting his breathing.
All she wants is for him to know that he deserves to be heard. That she would listen to him forever if she could.
For two minutes.
For eighteen minutes.
For three hours.
For the whole day.
As long as it would take for him to understand that his happiness was all that mattered. And if that meant talking so long and quickly that she had to remind him when to breathe, then so be it.
She never wants him to feels insecure, to have see his hands tremble because he feels as though he is a nuisance to those around him. She wants to tell him that no matter what, there will always be people that can't handle his words, his beauty, his grace, his heart; mainly because they can't handle or come close to understanding their own.
And especially, she want him to know, that he will never be, and has never been, 'too much' because to her, all the words he could possibly say would never be enough.
