Harold's POV

I was dancing with a beautiful girl in a sparkling white dress. We were all alone in the huge assembly hall of Future Gen Elementary and High School.

The spotlight pierced through the darkness that flooded the room and hit directly at us.

Her left hand was on my right shoulder and the other was trapped underneath my fingers. Our shoes squeaked on the gleaming floor as we danced. We stared deeply into each other's eyes and continued to waltz to the beat of a slow and steady song.

I swallowed hard. "G-Geraldine." I said in a shaky voice. "I... I... sorta... like you."

I was relieved when she grinned a toothy grin.

"Oh, Harold." She sighed, dreamily. "You know I know you're so handsome and..." She started to turn bright red.

I smiled crookedly as I waited for an answer. "And what, my love?"

"And... how should I say this..."

"You can say anything, dear." I reassured her. "Don't be nervous."

"And... a sleepyhead!" She suddenly yelled in a squeak.

"Huh?"

"Just wake up, already! HAROLD!"

~~

"Harold! HAROLD! Sleepyhead!" My sister, Kayla, screamed in my ear. "WAKE! UP!"

"Get off!" I yelled, pushing her off of me. She giggled. "You know I have a normal alarm clock, do you?!"

"Well, it didn't work big bro, 'cause look."

I stared at my digital clock.

6:55! 5 minutes before school starts!

That amazing dream must've distracted me from the clock's buzz... but not from my sister's screech.

"Well, I was going to pour water on you but--"

"Yeah, yeah. Save your breath for later. I need to prepare."

I hopped out of bed and started the shower. I grabbed a bar of soap and a bottle of shampoo. Some shampoo dripped into my eye.

"OW!"

I pulled the knob up. Hot water then spilled on my face.
I went downstairs a few minutes later with a burnt face and a sore eye.

The sun's beam passed through the window pane and the kitchen bathed in the glow of the rising sun.

The room shining made me feel better... but I need something to satisfy me.

I spotted dad buttering a slice of toast at the table.

Perhaps a slice will really lift me up. I thought.

But before I could even reach for one, Kayla pulled me to the door.

"C'mon we're gonna be late!"

I grabbed my stuff and stepped outside. I felt myself turn pale as I ran with an empty stomach.

"Bye, mom!" Kayla's hand waving side to side made me feel dizzy.

"Bye, sweeties!" Mom yelled. "Have fun!"

After passing a few more corners, I saw the yellow school bus at the bus stop.

"Yes! We're not too late!" I breathed heavily as we approached the bus stop.

The bus then started to leave.

So much for liftling my spirits up.

"No! Wait!" I shouted at the top of my lungs, but it was no use. The bus had already left. "Ugh! No!" I grumbled as I started to run after it. "WAIT! STOP!"

The kids in the bus chuckled.

"Get me my marbles!" A boy commanded.

He poured the marbles out but that didn't slow me down. I didn't know I could but, I avoided every single one of them.

And then I saw Geraldine. Oh, wow, her beautiful brown hair, her cute button nose, her red lips... that seemed to be parting to say something.

"Watch out!" She warned. I then slipped on a marble and landed on my right knee.

"Ow!" I rubbed my throbbing knee

"LOSER!"

"Howard the dweeb!"

More laughter erupted from the bus.

I groaned. "Now wha--"

"Heads up!"

My sister suddenly grabbed my arm while on her skateboard. I ran as she dragged me almost off my feet.

"Kayla! What the--"

"Get on!" She commanded.

I didn't really listen to her at times, but in desperate times like this, I have to. I hopped onto her skateboard and rode towards the bus.

"Hey, guys!" She shouted and waved. "It's me!"

"It's Kayla!" One kid yelled.

Several other kids muttered in excitement.

"Stop the bus!" Another commanded.
