Coming home from school was the best part of the day for me. I'm pretty sure it is for everybody but still, I really can't stand the place.
I'm not rich, but i work hard for what I can get since I live alone now. It's not much different than when I was eight and my mother started getting into drunk fights with other people. I've almost always been on my own...
I'm driving home when I see a car broke down on the side of the road, there's not another soul for at least 20 miles so I pull over to help out.
"Hello? Sir, would you like a ride to some help?" I ask. Boy? He looks really young. "hello?" I say agin walking closer now, I can make out what he looks like. And he's asleep. Damn, a jawline "shit" I whisper to myself and I can see the corner of his mouth turn up.
"Why hello there, how long have you been here?" Stunned I gasp at his voice, it's a sleepy one. Keep your cool Sophia.
"Not long, I just wanted to know if you would want a ride to a hotel or something?" I asked, then I caught myself in one of the mirrors. I look like shit. There's mascara under my eyes and I have a pimple that I didn't bother covering up this morning on my forehead. Silently I curse myself for being such an idiot . There was once a time when I cared what I looked like, and that feeling was coming back and eating me away as I waited for his answer.
"That would be wonderful, thank you so much... I'm sorry what's your name?" Said the nameless jawline boy
"Sophia, and yours?" I asked slightly embarrassed, I've always hated my name. It's too plain.
"Ethan" he said smiling "you have a beautiful name." He added still smiling. He had one of those infectious ones, you know? Where whenever they smiled it just made you want to as well.
"Why thank you" I said giving him a slight sarcastic curtsy and a smile of my own. "Ready to go?" I asked while walking back towards my car.
He followed after grabbing his phone and charger from his car and climbed into the passenger seat. We sat for a while in silence but it wasn't awkward, even though I caught him looking at me while trying to sneak a peek of him as well. I decided to keep driving around until we could spot a hotel. Two hours later and no luck, I was also getting really tired.
"You know it isn't that big of a deal, you can just drive me back to my car and I'll sleep there tonight until someone can get there in the morning to fix it" he said looking at me, worried. I could tell he kinda felt guilty for wasting any of my time. Which didn't mean anything to me since it's not like I had anything else to do.
"No, you're not sleeping there, you'll most likely freeze" I responded thinking of how cold it can get at night here in northern New Jersey in the middle of January.
He looked at me as I continued, "you can sleep at my apartment tonight, it has two bedrooms. And I really just want to go home anyways" I looked at him and he widened his eyes.
" are you sure? I am just a stranger to you after all." He said looking nervous.
"Of course" I laughed, but then again, I didn't even know how old he was. Suddenly I blurted out the question as though it's been on my mind all night even though it just came to mind.
"18," he said laughing, "and you?" I was lost in thought already before he even asked the question. 18? Really? That means I just helped a boy that is not only handsome and has a jawline that can slice cheese, but he's also only a little bit older than me. I realized he was looking at me again.
"Ummmmm... 17" I said trying to remember if that was the question he asked me. And I could already feel my cheeks reddening as I got more and more embarrassed as to how confused I seemed at a simple question like that.
"We're here" I said pulling up to the building. It isn't super nice but it was clean and all the plumbing and everything was in order. "Come upstairs, and bring your stuff"
