Running Flames~
Chapter 2
"So, who do you think this new recruit is?" Engineer asked Sniper and Spy.
"Don't care mate, as long as he's good on the field." Sniper said shortly as Spy showed an irritated look.
"I've looked everywhere and zere is no records on zis new recruit. Only zat zey have travelled a lot and zey're birzday is December 31st, at 11:59pm. Makes him about twenty five. Not even any pictures!"
"Did you really have to search for that? Give the dude some privacy Spooks." Sniper rolled his eyes.
"I need to know the details to see if he's worthy of the team." Spy huffed.
"Worthy of the team? Have ya seen our team? We got a crazy doctor, hyperactive kid, a drunk, a flame thrower, a backstabber, permanent silent treatment man, a guy who pisses in jars and a man who can't see because of his helmet!" Sniper argued with a sigh.
"Does that make me the only sane one?" Engineer chuckled.
"Obviously." The two men said in sync.
"Well, anyway, I heard the new guy's gonna be here in bout five minutes, so we can ask the fella ourselves."  Engineer smiled as the other RED members walked into the dining hall where they were waiting for lunch. Amelia was hanging off of Heavy while Medic looked as if he'd blow a fuse. Heavy just looked uncomfortable, but to nice to tell the clingy woman to leave him alone.
"Dat new guy here yet?" Scout asked. He liked the idea that he wouldn't be the only new guy around.
"You callin' for me?" A confident voice said from the doorway of the dining hall, leaning against the frame with one leg up and bent while the other held their weight as they crossed their arms.
The mercenaries gaped at the new recruit.
There in the door way stood a 5'8 woman with pale skin, freckles dusting over her cheeks and nose. Stormy grey-blue eyes pierced each man. It looked as if chaotic deep blue waves were crashing against her pupil, creating a greyish-white foam around it. Her lips were a pale pink and almost pouty. Her long, dark chocolate hair was wavy and curled in ringlets at the ends, ending at the middle of her back, even tied up into a high ponytail. She wore a red, low cut singlet and loose light blue shorts, slightly faded with simple red sneakers. She didn't have a  flat stomach or abs, but she wasn't chubby. She was simply had a little more cushion to love with heart shaped hips. She was about as beautiful as Amelia.
"Mornin boys." She chuckled as she walked in the room with a sway in her hips as she walked up to Engineer.
"Mind if I steal this seat Hun?" She smiled.
"I don't mind at all Missy." Engineer said politely to the woman. She sat down, leg crossed over the other as she rested her chin on the palm of her hand.
"So, what's your names darlings?" She gave a crooked grin and the men seemed to finally come out of their shocked trances.
"What are you doing here girly! Surely you can't fight in such a brutal war! You are simply a woman!" Solider ranted. Barley anyone noticed as she jumped over the table, over Spy and Sniper and decked the man in less than five seconds.
"Anymore words soldier boy?" She said with deadly venom as her knee pressed against the mans throat, her other knee crushing the mans hand slowly as she held the other arm in a tight grip.
"Now that's a recruit we need Spooks!" Sniper laughed as Solider passed out and the woman got up from the body, brushing off imaginary dust off her clothes.
"Oui Oui Mon Loup. Indeed." Spy said as he stood up and greeted the woman with a peck on the hand. The woman scowled and whipped her hand back.
"Don't touch me Foxy." She said coldly as she went back to her seat, wiping her hand on her shorts with a shudder.
"Woah. Did Spy just get rejected?" Scout asked.
"Hudda Huh." Pyro nodded as he left the dinning hall with an apple pie. Scout followed hastily.
"Hov can you refuse a gentleman like zat?! Zat is just rude." Amelia huffed.
"Sorry lovely, but no one should touch someone at all unless they allows it." She flickered her ponytail back over her shoulder and looked around at the men.
"So? How much do you guys know about my position?" She asked, an eyebrow raised.
"Practically nothing. We know your birthday, age and that you've travelled around. That's about it." Sniper said with a shrug, drinking his decaf coffee.
"Well then, guess I'll introduce myself. I'm the new class. Mystery. You can call me Myst for short. I've practically been dead to everyone in the world, which leads me to being a Mystery all together. During my travels though, I've trained to fight. I could easily take your place on the team if I wanted to. But I don't need or want to. Keep my trust and you have my respect. Simple. Any questions?" She cocked an eyebrow.
"Aye! Why ya been hidin'?" Demo asked.
"I don't spill secrets that easily Cyclopes." Myst winked, looking over the table before snatching a banana. Right before she took a bite, she spoke.
"Who owns the van outside?"
"That'd be me mate." Sniper gave a crooked smile as Myst smiled back.
"Hey there Snipes, good to hear I'll be living next to a fellow Aussie." She offered her hand in a greeting and Sniper took it while Spy narrowed his eyes slightly, grabbing an apple and leaving the dinning hall while Sniper bit back a sigh.
"So, ya neighbouring with me while you work here?" Sniper chuckled. "Figures that they keep the mates close together." Sniper smirked.
"Yeah. They were so desperate to have my skills, they built me a small cottage with two bedrooms to entice me into the job." Myst rolled her eyes.
"Lucky bugger. I got a rusty old van that I sleep in."
"I've lived it motels the last ten years, so it's nice to have a more stable home at the moment." Myst smiled, finishing her banana and getting up.
"Could you show me around darlin? I don't know the area that well." Myst asked.
"Sure. If you join me and Engineer for dinner tonight at his place. The mans the best chef in this place and loves company. The mans still trying to get Soldier off his canned food." Sniper snickered when Engineer blushed softly.
"I got to make sure the man eats properly." Engineer argued.
"More like ya just wanna take him out of dinner and a midnight snack." Sniper joked as thy left the dinning hall.
"Hey! I'm allowed to worry bout my boyfriend." Engineer huffed.
"Oh, thank god! I was worried one of you start liking me or hit on me." Myst sighed in relief.
"Who says I wouldn't?" Sniper interjected.
"Oh please, you're totally screwing Foxy the Frenchman." Myst smirked.
"What about Heavy, Medic or Scout?" Engineer questioned. "They could like you."
"Nah. Medic and Heavy are obviously a couple of the fuming German had anything say about. Scout doesn't seem like he's into romance at the moment. He's new, he'll probably stick around the Pyro. I'm pretty sure Pyros a man and gay. I mean, he seems to like that Scout follows him around like a lost puppy. So, everyone on the team is taken or gay. I won't find love here, I'm here to fight." Myst concluded.
"What about Demo?" Sniper asked and Myst seemed to stop short.
"I...I didn't bother looking him up. He just seemed to be a drunk Scott. Can't blame him for drink all the time though. Wars tough and he's only in his late thirties." Myst shrugged and continued with Sniper and Engineer, checking out the base.
"Well, that's all. Shall we go back to my place before dinner for a beer?" Engineer asked with a cheerful grin.
"Sounds great Engie." Myst smiled and they spent the rest of the day and night, drinking, eating, talking and laughing.
