just

both on edges
standing on the ledges of heartstrings
our heartbeats blasting and fastening themselves to hollow chests

chest of forgotten stories
nest of birds holding onto each other, their home
holding on to their safe hopes
just as you and i do

flowers stretch their bodies to light
cling and grow to grasp the sun each day
wanting to be drowned in sunlight, happiness
just as you and i do
just like you and me

me; you
"all you need is love"
"well don't you need somebody to love ?"
that's what the songs all say
but i mean it more than songs can maintain

...how do i explain ?
love is now a part of pop culture
but we are not merely a scene on a gossip magazine
for the world may not know my name because i didn't "set fire to the rain"
but you do "put gold to shame"

you can be just as you are
i'll be just as i am
that's just as you and i do
