The aroma of Jason's famous blueberry pancakes filled the house as Ivory walked down the slender wooden stairs, her small feet padding off of each step.

"Good Morning dad." Ivory said with a large yawn as she entered the tidy kitchen of the Stone household.

"Good morning darling. Sleep well?" Jason asked, peeling his eyes from the pan on the stove to look at Ivory's groggy state.

"You could say that." Ivory shrugged. "Is Ivan not up yet?" She asked, in search for her older brother.

"Not that I know of darling. Do you mind waking him for me? Breakfast is almost ready." He asked the ten year old girl. With a mischievous grin and a nod she headed up the stairs and for her brothers bedroom.

She gazed at his sleepy state and quickly ran back out, entering the bathroom she grabbed a small glass and filled it with cold water.

By the time Ivy had returned her brother was not in sight. Before she could get a closer look to investigate the cup was snatched from her grasp and the cold liquid trickled down her back and atop her head.

"Sorry Ivy, not this time." Ivan said. Ivory turned around and narrowed her eyes at her tall, slender brother.

With a huff Ivory headed back into her bedroom and changed into her clothes for the day.

She headed back to the kitchen to see her father serving large helpings of pancakes onto the small glass plates laid out for them on the dining table.

Ivan was almost finished his, as was Jason but Ivory had hardly touched her helping, for she usually didn't eat much.

"Ivy, are you going to tag along with Ivan and I to Kings Cross station tomorrow?" Jason asked. Ivory looked at her father with the blandest of expressions.

"Father. I've told you already, I'm having a picnic with the animals." She said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"Ah, right. The animals you can talk to..." Jason muttered, giving his attention to his plate again.

Ivory jumped from her seat and headed outside as she usually did.

"I'm worried about her dad." Ivan said, catching his fathers attention.

"Why's that?" Jason asked.

"She claims they can talk to her, and she can talk back. But how? That's mad." Ivan said, poking his pancake with his steel fork.

"I will never understand, and neither will you. But your mother understands. And though we don't know where she is, I know she hasn't passed. We'll leave it up to your mother to explain Ivory's gift to us if she feels like every showing her face around."
