The sound of my alarm is unnerving. I hate the screeching sound of the beep beep beep because it means I have to get up and go to hell. Sorry school. I push off my covers and swing my legs round so my feet met the carpet, I forced my head into my cold hands and rubbed my eyes to rid from the sleep dust. My reality kicked in and I soon heard shouting coming from downstairs. I tip toed along the landing and saw my little sister sitting on the stairs, still in her pj's covering her ears, tears streaming down her face, eyes bloodshot.
"Scarlett what's wrong?" I ask her, taking a seat next to my only sister, putting a hand on her back to comfort her.
"Ty everything is wrong. Parents are meant to be together, not fighting this way" Scar cried tears I had never seen her cry before. Tears of worry. It hurts me to see my little sis this way, she is the happiest of all of us and right now it breaks me to see our family falling apart. I remove my hand from her back and slowly get up.
"I have to stop this" Out the corner of my eye I see Scar rise and I gently push her back "It's not safe, they could be violent, or dad could be drunk again." She nods as she takes in that new information. I feel bad leaving her here alone but I know she understands why I have to. I make my way down the stairs, my feet are met with cold tiled floor as I enter the kitchen, or what I like to call 'fight zone'. Fight zone is where you will find mum and dad fight the most.
"Jared you promised me I could have the kids this week" Mum shouted at my dad. Great a fight where me and Scar are in the middle of it all.
"No I never said that, we share them equally" Dad shouts back at mum, rage filling his face.
"Guys stop all this fighting. Just stop. I am so tired of you two fighting, can't you be civil? Scar is scared and worried, as for me I am sick of the non stop shouting and arguing whenever you two are together. Just stop" I stopped them arguing, dad looked guilty and mum looked done with it all just like me.
"You make a compelling point Ty, I'm sorry, you came in here for breakfast. I made toast for you and Scar but she hasn't come down yet." Mum looked like she only had a few hours sleep last night.
"I will go get her" I said, already leaving the room to go get my sister. I heard a door slam and knew it was dad leaving.
"Has it stopped?" Scar asked me, tears still rolling down her cheek
"Yeah it has, but only for now, they won't stop fighting for good, but yes for now" I kiss her head help her down the stairs. Scar ran to the breakfast bar and grabbed toast ans started munching away. Mum drank some coffee but looked like she was nodding off. Ever since she lost her job she has been trying to find a new one and by doing so she is staying up so late, risking her sleep. I really feel for her. "Mum, you should go get some rest, I can see you're tired and I think it's best"
"What about taking Scar to school?" Mum asked mid yawn.
"I will take her, and get her ready" I say with a smile.
"You're the best, thank you Ty" Mum said, making her way upstairs. I turned to face Scar. "It's just you and me pal" I boop her nose and she giggles
"Yay just you and me" Scar smiled then took another bite of toast. I ruffled her hair and sat down beside her and ate toast. Today is going to be shitty, I can feel it in my bones.
