2010.
They didn't mean for it to happen. It just...happened.
They knew that the other existed, yet they didn't know each other at all. She happened to be running late to the "very important event" as her father called it, and was stopped by some men who were much older than her. The men coming closer, taunting her with every word they said.
She was only seventeen, fresh outta high school. She was trying to get away from them, but they were much stronger than her. The teen was about to give up fighting when suddenly the grown men were stopped.
He had come out of nowhere, throwing punches and threatening the call the police. That's all it took for the guys to flee and for her to finally notice him. His shaggy brown hair and his eyes that she couldn't decide if they were blue or green.
"Are you alright? Do you want me to call the police?" She could barely speak, "N-No. I-I'll be fine." He sighed out of relief, "I'm glad you're alright."
They looked at each other for a while. Blue. His eyes were blue. He smiled a bit at her which made her heart leap. He broke the gaze to look at his watch.
"Shit," he whispered. "Do you know how to get to the Hilton on Parkson Lane?" She nodded, "Yeah I was actually on my way there. I'll show you."
"Thanks but do you mind if we run because I'm gonna be late for something really important." The girl finally became aware of the time, "Crap so am I!" She took off running with him following behind her. It took them only about three minutes to get to the hotel by foot. They ran to the front desk, her still in the lead.
She started hitting the bell over and over because the bellhop wasn't there. The man behind her had his eyes wide open at the teen in front of him. She wasn't like anyone he'd ever met, very outgoing. Very intriguing. And he liked it, quite a bit actually. He also couldn't deny how attractive she was to him. But he couldn't shake the feeling that he had seen her before.
The bellhop came out annoyed, looking at the girl. "Can I help you miss?" She smiled sarcastically, "Yes please. Can you tell me where the Luncheon Room is?"
He pointed to the staircase, "Up the stairs, take a right and it's the last door on the right."
"Thank you!" she said as she took off her heels and sprinted up the stairs. She was gone in an instant, "Wait that's where I'm going too!" He followed her up the stairs, wondering why they were going to the same place. They eventually reached the room and threw open the door.
"I'm so sorry I'm late!" she said as the people in the room started out at them. There were three other people in the room, an older man and woman who were the girl's parents and a younger woman, the girl's older sister. His eyes shot wide open as he stared at the girl inside and the girl next to him. He knew why the young girl looked familiar.
The father said, "There you two are! Did you meet downstairs?" The two looked at each other, her looking with confusion.
"Wait" she said to the man who saved her, "Why are you here?" He looked at her and then looked at the others, unsure of what to say. The next person to speak was the the girl's sister.
"Jude, this is my little sister Gracie. Gracie this is Jude, my fiancé." They looked at each other, "You're Jude?" He nodded , "Nice to meet you, Gracie." She couldn't stop staring at him as she whispered, "You too."
This was going to be a big problem. And they both knew it.
