Kanetsu lay down on a beach, looking up at the birds gliding on the wind and the clouds passing over his head. He closed his eyes, feeling the cool breeze flow through the air. In the distance, he could hear the laughter of people passing by, as if everything was fine. Like nothing could ever happen to them. He smiled to himself even though he wasn't feeling happy at all. Oh, how he wished he could be like them; playing around with friends all day, laughing, shouting, smiling, with nothing to worry about. While he was lost in those thoughts, he felt his mind slipping away as he slowly fell asleep...

And as he fell asleep he began dreaming of what happened on that day...

It was the middle of the night. Kanetsu was walking through a dark forest. In the sky there was a full moon; its light covered the trees with sinister shadows, daring the boy to keep going further and further into the void. But he wasn't scared. After all, he wasn't alone. His head turned right to look at the short, white-haired girl who walked alongside him. Mika.

"Come on, we still need to get back before the twilight!" the girl urged him to speed up, impatience in her voice.

"Why are you in such a hurry? It's not like we're going to get lost or anything. We've been here hundreds of times. Or... are you scared?" Kanetsu teased her.

Mika turned around and glared at him with her bright blue eyes, her face turning slightly red. "J-Just shut up and hurry!" she sped up. Kanetsu had trouble keeping up. He told her to slow down, but she ignored him. The boy felt as if somebody was watching them, but as he looked around he couldn't find anything suspicious.

"We're almost here!" Mika shouted as she accelerated once again. Now Kanetsu could barely see her due to the darkness around them.

They reached the end of the small path. In front of them was an old, wooden house. Inside there was only one room, a kitchen and a bathroom, which would make it difficult to live in for more than two people. Kanetsu called it their 'Secret Base'. It was actually Mika who found it, but she decided to tell her friend about it since it would be boring to go there alone. It was most likely abandoned by the previous owners; the furniture was still inside. The duo often ventured there together at night, because this was the only place where they could be alone. The house was so deep into the forest that nobody else knew about it. Or so they thought.

As they slowly neared the house, Kanetsu heard a quiet, hollow voice whisper something into his ear in a language he has never heard before. He froze. His head spun around quickly, looking behind him, but he didn't see anything. He turned back towards Mika, but...

She was gone.

"M-Mika!" the boy screamed at the top of his lungs. There was no response. He kept shouting his friend's name over and over again as he sprinted towards the house. He burst through the door. Standing in the middle of the main room, was a tall man. His hair and eyes were black. So were his clothes. He had a blood-thirsty smile on his face. He was holding up his right arm. In his hand, there was a beautiful white-haired girl...

"Mika!"

The man turned around towards Kanetsu. His smile grew even wider. Before the boy had a chance to do anything, the intruder threw Mika against the wall. He pulled out the knife and struck her in her right breast as hard as he could. Blood poured out of the wound, covering the wall and the floor. Mika looked up, straight into Kanetsu's eyes. She seemed to be telling him to run, but the boy wasn't able to move. His legs felt weak; he collapsed onto the floor.

The man now turned towards him. He walked up to the boy, kneeling in front of him. His black eyes seemed to be small voids, filled with hatred and darkness. Kanetsu was shaking. He wasn't able to move his muscles. All he could do was just stare hopelessly at the man who was about to kill him. Suddenly, the intruder held out his fist, getting ready to attack. His hand collided with the boy's head. Kanetsu's vision was getting blurry as he was falling unconscious. The last thing he saw was Mika's dead body covered blood, her beautiful blue eyes staring lifelessly into his soul...
