“Yo, Kade!” I stopped mid-stride at the sound of my best friends voice and looked over my shoulder. Cash was sprinting across the pack grounds waving his hands in the air as if I couldn’t already see him.

“Knock that crap off” I chuckled swatting his hands out of my face. He could be an idiot sometimes - okay, most of the time - and I often wondered as we were growing up how he managed to get girls. Must’ve been that baby face of his. “So, you gonna tell me why you’re running around the pack grounds screaming like some crazed lunatic?”

“It’s Friday” he said in that ‘Duh’ tone I despised. I hated that tone and if I wasn’t hearing it from him, it was from my little sister, Annie.

“I am aware of what day it is.” I nodded looking out at the expanse of land before me. Growing up being surrounded by trees was something that you get used to and it calmed me.

“Then you must also know what that means, right?” he asked as he stepped into my line of vision.

“Enlighten me, please” I sighed crossing my arms over my chest. Cash could never just get to the point to save his life.

“We’re all going out tonight, remember?” he asked, brows furrowing. “For you birthday?”

“Dude, my birthday was like, two weeks ago.” I pointed out

Cash rolled his eyes and huffed. “I know when your birthday is you jackass. But no one was able to do anything these last two weeks because of finals. Didn’t you get the test last night saying that we were going tonight?”

“Can’t remember,” I shrugged “On top of all of my college courses I have pack matters to attend to with my dad as well as my weekly visits with uncle Isles.”

“That is exactly why you are coming out with the boys tonight! You need a night out to relax and enjoy.” he said throwing his hands in the air. “Find a girl; maybe two - or three - and have some damn fun for once!”

“Two or three?” I chuckled “Seriously?”

“Yes, two or three. It’ll be just like old times.”

“Old times huh?” questioned Kira - a feisty little brunette - who also happed to be his mate.

Cash paled before plastering a smile on his face and turning to his mate. “Hey babe”

“Old times?” she asked again. I could see the amusement banked in her dark brown eyes. I highly doubted that Cash could though, he was too busy trying to figure out something to say. Cracking a grin she turned to me. “What’d you say Kade? A night out just like old times?”

“You guys are such a bad influence on me.”

She scoffed “Oh, please. If anything you’re the bad influence. Don’t think I’ve forgotten all the times that you got us into trouble over the years.”

I rolled my eyes “I never once heard any of you complain.”

“Okay, now that, that is settled and Kira isn’t gonna rip me a new one there’s something else I need to tell you,” said Cash with a grin.

“Who said you were off the hook?” she asked placing her hands on her hips.

“Ugh! Not now woman,” he huffed in exasperation “You can punish me later.” I shook my head, attempting to rid myself of the unwanted images that one sentence had conjured up.

“As I was saying,” he continued shooting his mate a look that said ‘Quiet, till I’m finished.’ “Guess who’s coming in tonight?”

“Why don’t you just tell?” I suggested “I’m in no mood to play the guessing game.”
