“It is unusually sunny today” said the Owen Gortar to his brother Eugene. “It’s so warm and bright. Then again, I can’t exactly complain, can I?”

“N-no” stuttered Eugene Gortar, a much younger Flagfell. It was an extraordinarily bright day in the kingdom of Garbagod. Almost every Flagfell was out playing in the rare sunshine. As the Flagfell played, out of nowhere, a glass bottle started spinning towards the ground. It was heading for the middle of the large paddock. Out of the corner of his eye, Owen saw the bottle spinning down towards Eugene.

“Eugene!” Owen shouted. “Get out of the way.” But instead of moving, Eugene put his hands up in order to catch the flying glass. As he wrapped his hands around it the glass smashed, cutting Eugene’s hands to tiny pieces. A piece of paper fluttered into Eugene’s pocket. The last things Eugene remembered were being picked up by Owen, before he passed out.

The Flagfell are a race that resides on an island in the Pacific Ocean. They call their island the Kingdom of Garbagod. The Flagfell are similar to humans in shape, however far taller and they have long, furry tails. Their ears are pointy, much like those of an elf. Ears are the only sign of status in Garbagod. If a Flagfell’s ears are long, they are held in respect by anyone with shorter ears. The lord has the longest ears in the castle. The Flagfell that have no ears, however, are treated as slaves. Owen and Eugene are just two of many, many earless flagfells.

Because of their lowly status, Owen wondered how he would get Owen healed. Luckily, he had seen the paper slip into Eugene’s pocket and so slipped it out and read it.

Lay down your arms with immediate effect.

Alternatively, we will storm your defences.

Owen decided to go immediately to the lord and so walked through the grand doors of the castle, quickly moving past the stairs to the basement, towards the Lord’s quarters. Quickly, he reached his destination. He knocked loudly on the door.

            “Enter” yelled the Lord menacingly.

“Sir, someone plans to attack the kingdom” blurted Owen quickly.

            “Oh really” teased the lord.

“Yes” Exclaimed Owen, before launching into his story.

“I have an idea, young one” said the Lord when Owen had finished “Which way did you say you thought the bottle came from, the East??”

“Yes sir, from the Forest of Far East” Owen replied.

“You and your brother shall set off into the Forest of Far East then, in order to find the source of this message. I shall assign a warrior to protect you”

“Certainly, my lord” said Owen, eager to impress his lord.

“Excellent. I shall inform a warrior to be prepared. You shall leave tomorrow.” Owen then rushed his brother to the infirmary, where he was healed.

Come the morning, Owen and a refreshed Eugene set off through the forest with their warrior, Philadelphia.  Philadelphia was an earless woman as well. None of the threesome had ever dared to enter the Forest of Far East and so they were understandably nervous about the perils they had been warned about all their lives.

They entered the forest hesitantly and walked in silence until they could see no daylight behind them. They expected all manner of creatures to jump out at them at any time. However, before the sun had risen to the position of midday they could see sunlight at the other end of the forest.

The group continued strongly until they saw an intimidating wall. The wall was bigger than anything they had ever seen and was made of dark wood. In front of it were a group of centaurs, with their lion legs. They were brandishing swords.

The trio didn’t know how to continue until Eugene sighted a gap in the fence. He tapped Owen on the shoulder and pointed towards the opening before running for it, without warning. He dived through as the others quickly followed.

Ahead of the trio now was another gigantic wall, however this one had no holes to speak of. The trio moved through the plain grass between the two walls and reached the other wall quickly. Philadelphia began tapping at the wall and she soon learned that it was far weaker than the other one. Making herself some space, she launched an explosive kick at the wall, which crumbled.

“That was incredible!” exclaimed Eugene suddenly.

“How did you do that?” added Owen.

“Practice” said Philadelphia quickly. “Come now, let us continue, little ones.” As the trio made to move off, they saw an incredible land. A moat of glistening blue water lay before them, stretching as far as the eye could see along the wall. On the other side of the moat, was a massive metropolis. There were chimneys, factories and monstrous constructions. People were visible everywhere. Not Flagfells, but humans. For a race of people who live in a simple castle, the Flagfell were astounded at this new world they had uncovered.

As they stood gaping, three men crept up behind them and grabbed them.

“We’ve caught the intruders” yelled one man.

“Giants, they are” added another.

“Giants belong in fairy tales” exclaimed Philadelphia indignantly. “We are Flagfell, from Garbagod. Who are you?”

“Garbagod” questioned the third man. “Never heard of it. However, we are the soldiers of Margartown”

“Well, soldiers of Margartown, did you send us this note?” Eugene asked as he passed over the note quickly.

“Well of course we did” said one of the men.  “If you do not stop attacking us with immediate effect, we will return fire. It reallyis very simple, sir.”

“Simple it may be, but we didn’t even know you existed until 5 minutes ago, let alone how to attack you” responded Owen.

“Regardless, you will return back to your Garbagod now, Flagfell” said a man as he shaved the Flagfell back through the wall. Intimidated, the Flagfell quickly began to march back to Garbagod, eagerly awaiting earning the respect of the lord with their new discovery.
