Of slavery I know much
Tales told over oil lamps
By toothless elders
Under the myriads of stars
They spoke of the raids and the wars
The rape of young women
The death of young men
The hunger of the children
The sacking of the village
Fire and blood everywhere
The screams and lamentations
The fear and unrest
The wail of slaves on the trail
The hazardous dangerous routes
The death on the middle passage
The stench tears and odium
The sugarcane plantation
The dark treacherous mines
The inhumanity and the humanizations
The feeling of nostalgia
The revolt of the slaves
Their determination and will
Those that prefer death to shame
The blood ...so much blood
