Chapter 1-the portal

Hey my name is kaki I would say I'm fairly grown up for my age I'm 13 and I already hold one of the the biggest responsibilities keep the element of warmth and fire safe, my duty is to protect it no matter what.

You know when you have winter and summer well who do you think changes the seasons? Me of course but with a bit of help from my group we erase the snow and bring back life to your freezing wastelands but god for bid anything happens to the fire clan, fire would make havoc there would be nothing to control it. The world would go down in flames not a single thing surviving. Although not all hope would be gone there are other clans there are other groups you have the water clan, the storm clan, the earth clan, the air clan, the light clan and the-

Well we don't associate with them anymore and the technically don't qualify as a clan anymore more outsiders....

I know I haven't said much about my personal life because well frankly I don't have one I mean I have a family but I never talk to them as they are always too busy so I tend to be a very solitary character protecting myself from anyone that could hurt me I only confide in one person and that's Teni she is one of my best friends she can understand me without prying to deep, and she can tell what's wrong with me even by a slight raise of an eyebrow.

Mine and her favourite place is on the edge of town where we won't be disturbed but that's not the only reason we like the area it also has a series of portal breaks which lead into the real world. If you wondering what a portal break is well the world we live in is separated from the real world by a series of walls in time that's why we never age here and that's why in the real world they do but sometimes this wall has breaks which allows us to pass into the real world although real world inhabitants cannot pass through as they don't wear the amulets which we posses which allows us to open up breaks in the time ripple and pass through the theory of time.

"hey " Teni said strolling over to me only she could see me through the thicket of the trees "hey"I replied sorting through my satchel we had agreed to meet and have a lunch in the woods at 3:00 she had been about 10 minutes late but I decided not to bring it up I started to unpack my bag and Teni did the same we each had individual food plates for ourselves since Teni can't eat my fire food and I can't eat Teni's earth food you may think why well different elements have each individual food sources due to the fact that if Teni ate mine her insides would be burnt out and if I ate hers I wouldn't be able to digest it and it would get stuck in my throat.

So we tucked into our feast and chatted about all different things like for example:

What annoys us the most

Whats the top ten things we want to do before we are 30

What animals we love

Our friend bob the ant ( it's a long story)

And we eventually rolled onto the topic about entering the portals which happened to drive me to my next action...

"Teni, I have an idea. Why don't we-"

"-don't even think about it kaki you know it's forbidden"

"oh come on we can come straight back as soon as we go through"

"no we're not I have to go home soon anyway" she picked up her bag and started packing

"you should start packing to Kaki it will be late"

......."*huff*okay" I started packing my stuff up and thrust my satchel over my back and started walking away behind Teni and I looked back over my shoulder at the swirling portals some day I will go through it some day..

"where have you been kaki?" My mum said panicky

"oh I'm fine you see I was just at the edge of town"

"you know I don't like you near there"

"I know but there's nothing dangerous there I enjoy being a one with nature"

"fine but I still don't approve of the area especially with all those unstable portals"

"yeah yeah" I said to be honest I had stopped listening by then

I walked up into my room and dumped my bag under my chair and opened my wardrobe to reveal my drab selection of clothes I could wear an old dress from where I was about 6 which I could probably get an arm in now or I could wear a worn out t-shirt with about three stains of orange juice on it or some trouser with a hole on the knee or some other grey thing from the deep dark depths of my ancient wardrobe.

I shoved on my dressing gown and went into the bathroom I took of my clothes and stepped into the shower I poured on the hot steamy water it felt so good against my bristly skin covered in pine needles.

I thought about the portals what was the real world like?

Do they have arms?

Do they speak like us?

Do plants even grow?

Is there anyone even living on that side of the portal?

I let my mind wander right until I went to bed that evening eventually I became so excited by my thoughts that I convinced myself that Tomorrow I'm going to the portals and I'm going through them no matter what anyone says......
