I set my bags down and take my boots off by the door, I'm then greeted by my dog, Drake, I look at him, pat him on the head, and say, "I missed you to buddy." I then walk into the kitchen to grab something to eat but then I realize I haven't been home in 6 months so there won't be any food in my cabnites or refrigerator, so i decide to go down to the Diner. I also know Savannah will be there since she worked there every summer since she was 12. Also because her Mama owns it and she trys to help out as much as she can. Savannah and I  grew up together since we we're in diapers, and we've both lived in Hentley all our lives. Ive had a crush on her since our Sophomore year of high school, but i never worked up the nerve to tell her. I grab my keys to my truck and I decide to make a quick stop at my parent's house being that its on the way to the Diner. I pull up in their driveway a hour and half later and I see my Mama outside working in her garden and my dads out back by the barn. My mom notices me first and says,

"Well hello there stranger, glad to have you back home. Congratulations son, me and your Daddy are very proud of you." She says as she walks up to hug me and kiss my cheek

I reply back with, "Hey Mama. Thank you, how's everything down here been?"

She smiles and says, "Everything's been good, you haven't missed much. Your father's feed store and my clinic hasn't changed one bit since you've been gone. Brantley started his Senior year of high school, he's the quarter back of the football team this year. He's at practice right now, should be home any minute now, but in the mean time go say hello to your Daddy."

"Yes ma'am." I say and walk off towards the barn where I know I'll find him, my Dad is always busy with his horse training service or the feed store; sometimes he worries me he's going to over work himself, I just smile to myself because I know I'm just like him, stubborn as a mule.

"Hey old man." I say when I get close enough for him to hear me

He turns around and says, "Well look who's back home. Congradulations on that win, I'm proud of you son. How was Oklahoma?"

"Thank you, and it was okay. I sure missed this though." I reply gesturing to the farm and being home

"Well son its good to have you home. At least I don't have to hear your Mama fussin' and worryin' about you; for a little while at least." He says chuckling as he pats me on the back as he walks off and then he stops and turns back around and says, "Would you like some lunch?"

I say,"Its just like mama to worry, and no Sir, I'm going to head down to the Diner and eat there and then stop in town to stock up on food for my house since I haven't been home. Tell Mama I said bye and tell Ben I said Hey."

"Okay son, don't flirt to hard with Savannah. It was good seeing you, don't be a stranger now that your home. You know your old man could always use some help around here." He says with wink and chuckles

"I won't dad. And anytime you need me I'm just a phone call away, I don't mind. Bye dad." I say and then walk to my truck and get in and head to the diner.

A picture of Carter's house. I absolutely love barn houses and its my dream to maybe live in one one day.
And also any time I say boots in the story I mean cowboy/girl boots, unless I say other wise. And anytime I say the Diner I mean Savannah's Mama's diner.
