Chalman walked to his village's library, excited for new books to read. He read all of the books at is library and heard new books came in, and he hoped he could find all of them interesting, like the rest of the novels he's read so far. He could see the Deliverers dropping off the books on the shelves through window on the door. He was so excited, he could hug everybody in the village and say, "Thank you for delivering the books! I can't wait to read them all."
He noticed that one of the deliverers brought in a huge, dusty book with knight gloves to protect her from the book. Why is she using that for some old, dead book? He wondered out loud. He decided to investigate on this weird action.
"Excuse me, but why are you using those gloves to carry the book?" He asked kindly and impatiently. "Surely, there is no need to use it."
She smiled.
"One must be careful of books, and what is inside them for words have the power to change us." She said to Chalman, making him ponder on what she had said. Maybe he'll ask the librarian, Dallben.
Dallben was wearing a robe that looked like it had a lot of stains and wasn't washed for a few weeks. He had a long, gray beard and no hair. He smelled like armpit.
"Dallben?"
"Ah, hello Taran! What do you need help with?" Dallben farted, unfortunately having gas issues.
"Uuhhh..." He coughed, fanning away the ghastly smell. "Why was the Deliverer using gloves to carry that novel?"
"Why," Dallben burped. "Because that's a real, extraordinarily dangerous, of course!"
Taran thought about that.
"Can I borrow the book?" He asked.
"Of course," Dallben tooted uncomfortably. "But be careful, it has priceless pages. Handle it carefully. That will be one gold coin because of its expensive cost."
Chalman walked into his small, humble home. His mother and father died when he was four, but that was ten years ago. He doesn't pay much attention to their accident. He never told anybody, but a few people already knew, like his older sister he lives with, Eilonwy, and his twin brother, Crol. They all live in the same medieval cottage house, and they all knew how they died. Chalman headed into their room and saw Eilonwy on her bed with somebody, a BOY.
She saw Chalman coming over to his bed with a big book and pouted. She hated when he read when she needed her privacy. But her 'boyfriend' smiled and came over to greet him.
"Hello little one!" He happily spoke to the half-heartedly listening Chalman. "What is your name? My name is Prince Ellidyr, and, if you don't mind, I have taken interest on your beautiful sister. I am son of King Pen-Llarcau, in the south. I was traveling when I saw the most precious, amazing woman hard at work washing a pig. I was wondering if I could take her back to my castle, you know why, if you can accept as the second oldest sibling in your family, while she says yes."
"Yes, take her if you like," Chalman said, not giving a single care about Eilonwy. "I really don't care, for she has done nothing but be mean to me for the past week and she doesn't even help feed us or do chores with us. Only cares about herself.
"So take her away, you don't need much permission."
"Oh, ok..." Ellidyr thought it would take more talking to get Chalman to let him marry her.
"I am going to take my gorgeous fiancee to my kingdom now, after she packs her bags."
Ellidyr looked at Eilonwy expectantly.
"Oh, right." She started going to her closet and taking everything out and into a large sack and put that on a strong stallion outside.
Chalman said his goodbyes and watched Ellidyr and Eilonwy ride away on their horses, farther away until they are in the forest that surrounds the village.
As soon as he went back to read his new book, Crol came in the room and looked around. He was wearing a dirty, ripped cloth that made Chalman easily tell that he was on chicken duty.
"Oh, Prince Ellidyr, son of King Pen-Llarcau in the south, is going to marry her. She is going to their kingdom."
"YES! SHE IS FINALLY GONE FROM MY VIEW! SHE IS SO ANNOYING--"
Chalman covered his mouth.
"Shush! Don't you know the old, crazy folks will freak out and get out that rusty swords and try to kill everybody?"
"Oh yeah..."
"Now shush! Look I got a new book."
Chalman showed Crol his new book.
"Cool! Let's read it." But before Crol was able to open it, Chalman swapped his hands away.
"No, you shan't open it, for we do not know what could happen when we do. I have seen a woman with knight gloves carrying the book onto its slot. Do you want to know what she said? She said 'One must be careful of books, and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.' "
"You really think that she is telling truth and no lie?"
"Why, yes."
Crol sighed. "Then what do you want to do with it?"
