I woke up to the bleating of my alarm clock, and momentarily forgetting where I was, aimed to turn it back off and get some more sleep. As soon as my eyes shut, I remembered everything from the past month. I remembered that we moved from our gigantic home in London to this smaller mansion in Chicago. I stood up and looked at my clock, it was 5 am. I opened the door to my closet, put on my running clothes and ran down the stairs and into our indoor gym. After a quick thirty minute, 4 mile run, I did 100 sit ups and went into my bathroom to take a shower. Once I finished my shower and had on my robe, I sat down in front of my bathroom mirror and began to put on my makeup. After my face was bronzed and my eye makeup finished (with some beautifully symmetrical eyeliner,) I went to my closet to pick out my outfit. I decided to replace my usual eye catching outfits with something demure and settled on black leggings and a low cut black top, with some simple black converse. I checked the time again, and saw that I had just enough time to brush my teeth and grab my smoothie. I quickly brushed my teeth and headed downstairs to prepare my smoothie, and put it in a bottle as I headed for the keys. We have a few cars in our garage. I usually take the convertible, while Caleb takes the bug and mom and dad rotate with the Ferrari and the Lamborghini. I put my black bag in the passenger seat and head to school, plugging my phone in to play Halsey's "Castle" on the custom sound system. I sing along and push the button so that the top comes down and the cool air comes through my hair. After twenty minutes or so, I see the sign for Divergent high, and turn into the parking lot. I notice that most of the cars in the lot looked used, and realize immediately that I will stand out. I park next to an extremely detailed motorcycle, roll the top and windows up, and collect my things before getting out and locking my car. When I turn towards the school, I see a group of boys staring at my car.
"Like what you see boys," I ask.
"This is your car?"
I turn toward the tallest boy and saunter up to him.
"Yes, it is. Would you mind showing me to the office love?"
"Um... s-sure..."
I begin to walk slightly behind him as he walks towards a building I assume is the office. I try very hard to exude confidence so he doesn't know that I'm terrified.
"My name is Four. Back there you met Will, he was the nerdy looking one, Uriah, he probably looked like he was going to pee his pants with excitement, and Zeke, Uriah's older brother," Four explained as we walked. I mentally went through all of them, and then recognized them all in my mind.
"Next you'll meet Tori, she's the guidance counselor. She'll give you your schedule and locker assignment. I'll stick around here to help you find classes and everything else you'll need," he continued.
"I'm sure you'll meet everyone's' girlfriends soon as well. Christina is dating Will. She's tall, chatty and loves shopping. Then there's Marlene, she's dating Uriah, she's a sweetheart. Shauna, she's dating Zeke. She's rough around the edges, but she's cool. And Lynn. Hopelessly in love with Marlene, but you know," he finished.
"Well, you've told me about everyone except you," I state.
As we walk into Tori's office, he smirks and says, "Well I'm just a mystery," as he walked back out to the hall.
I turn to face Tori, she shoves some papers towards me and wishes me a swift good luck.
I step back out of the office and hand my papers to Four, and he quickly glances over them.
"Okay, we have the first four classes together, the same lunch period, and then the last three classes you have with Chris so you'll be fine."
"Oh, love, I'd have been fine on my own, I'm sure."
Four scoffs and motions for me to follow him to class, which happens to be AP Language, which I'll pass without trying. When we finally get to the class, we take the last two seats that are next to one another, and pull out our books. After our first classes pass, we go to the lunchroom and head to the hot food line. I grab an apple and a fresh juice, pay and sit down at the table he points me to. He and his friends join me a few minutes later with trays filled with food. They start talking immediately, and we all get to know each other rather quickly. Since today is Thursday, they discuss where to hang out on Friday. Uriah and Zeke's is ruled out, because their mom won't let people spend the night. Will isn't allowed to have people over. Shauna, Chris, Marlene, and Lynn all had several siblings and no one even bothered to ask Four. I would have to remember to ask Chris about that later.
"Well, my parents are probably going to be out of town anyway... we could probably do it at my house."
They look at me with huge smiles on their faces, and Christina says to me ten words that make me dread the rest of the afternoon,
"I think we have to go shopping this afternoon then."
