The crowd screamed and cheered, clapping and chanting praises as the guitars faded out and the band walked to the front of the stage to take their bows. It was summer of 2005, and Dance Gavin Dance were just finishing up the last gig of their first tour.
As they walked off stage, fans swamped them; trying to climb over the barriers and screaming out as their names for hope of being noticed. Alvaro waved politely but grimaced when his back was turned - this was far too much attention for his liking.
Once they'd made it back to their bus, they all sat down with a heavy sigh. "Good show, guys," Will congratulated them as he rummaged around in his backpack. "They love us."
"And I love the idea of taking a shower right now," Alvaro grumbled, getting up and wandering off to the bathroom.
"What's with him?" Will nudged Jon who shrugged and looked at the bag Will had pulled out. It was filled with a white powder, and was no more than half full, though no less either.
"Is that...?" Matt began, but Will cut him off.
"Shh!" he hissed. "Al will go nuts if he finds out!"
"Right, right, sorry." Eric apologised on Matt's behalf, glaring at him pointedly in the process.
"So, we doing this or not?" Will asked, shaking the bag gently to regain their attention to the important matter at hand.
The others nodded, almost timidly, and Will poured a small amount onto the surface of the table, using a knife to make it into lines. He handed them each a rolled up dollar bill, and they each took their turns. Eric coughed violently but managed to settle down thanks to Matt.
"How much is too much?" Matt grinned, snatching the bag off the table and beginning to set out more lines.
Alvaro really did have impeccable timing. He chose that precise moment to come barging back into the main room of the bus, towel round his waist, hair dripping wet. "Is that...?"
"Oh, shit," Will's eyes widened as he hurriedly attempted to shove the cocaine back into the bag, with little success.
"I can't believe you guys!" Al sounded horrified.
"Listen, Al-"
"You'd seriously do cocaine without me?"
They all looked a bit bewildered at that. "You feelin' alright, Al?" Will looked up at him from the couch.
"Fine other than the fact I just walked in on my best friends snorting coke without me." He glared at them each in turn.
"We thought you'd be upset that we did it in the first place." Matt looked slightly sheepish.
"Of course not! Just let me know next time, huh?" Al shimmied into some shorts and sat down beside them. After a few seconds of awkward silence, he cleared his throat. "So, where's my line?"
