At that point I had decided I had done enough dawdling. The sun had already set. That was when the Reapers appeared. "Time to get to my human," I smirked, allowing the cloak/sweater to take me to light speed.

- Maddison POV

I couldn't believe I managed to let myself come here.

I was, at the moment, standing in the corner of a really rowdy house party. Me. The normally straight A student that tried my best to avoid places and kids like these. How did I get here, you ask? Well, my friends of now three years had decided what better way to spend the last night of our Summer break by getting as drunk as possible? I wasn't a drinker, which was good, but I was consciously around drunk people doing who knows what, which was bad. Music pounded from an unknown laptop somewhere in the gigantic mansion, hurting my ears with each boom of the bass.

"Hey, Maddie," Ethan, a friend of mine, slurred, draping his arm around me. His alcoholic breath infiltrated my nose, which in reflex, scrunched up. "You enjoyin' the party?" he asked. I nodded, too stiffened by his gross breath. As if suddenly losing his memory, Ethan's face washed over with confusion. He saw me, recognized me, took another sip of the red Solo cup in his hand, and walked off, probably to go hump a girl somewhere or something.

A felt a breeze flow through the black knee length dress I had decided to wear for some reason, followed by a deep voice, "Jeez, the bass is so loud. Is this what parties are like?"

"Tell me about it," I murmured under my breath.

Apparently whoever walked in had heard me, because a second later came a response, "Hey, you aren't drunk! That's cool!"

"You don't sound like you want to be!" I replied, "That's cool, too!"

For a few seconds, I studied the stranger I had become acquainted with. He was pretty tall and skinny, wearing a white sweater and plain blue jeans. Seemed safe enough. His hood was up, so I couldn't really see his face well, but I saw jet black hair poking out of his hood.

"So who dragged you over here?" he asked, "I've known you for about five seconds and can tell you didn't willingly come."

"True," I sighed, "My friends made the wonderful decision of taking me to a house party before the end of the summer break. What better way to end it, right?"

The stranger recognized my sarcasm, chuckling, "Is anyone going to school tomorrow? They're probably all going to have major hangovers."

"They're all idiots and think they can actually make it through tomorrow," I said, shaking my head in disapproval.

The stranger let out a slight chuckle again, "I know how that goes. One time a friend of mine got so drunk that the next day he walked into class with his pants on one arm."

I laughed, "That must've been a memorable day."

"That it was," he replied.

We exchanged small talk for a little while until someone clapped a hand on white hood's shoulder, "Dude! I never thought you'd come!"

Another tall stranger, but this guy was wearing a black sweater with blue jeans. His hood was down, and his messy  brown hair was in disarray amongst his tanned skin, showing off his green eyes.

"And let you down?" White hood grinned, dramatically exclaiming, "Kain, you know me better than that!"

They exchanged the classic guy's handshake, and Kain turned to me, "So you've met Death?"

White hood took off the hood concealing his face, and I was met with a pale white face and lightning yellow eyes.

My brain did a backflip.

"Hold on," I said to white hood, "What's your name?"

"Exactly what you heard," white hood said with a toothy grin, "Name's Death. Remember that."

"It's hard to forget a name like that..." I muttered.

Kain shrugged, "Welp, me and this guy have to go, there's some stuff we've gotta take care of before tomorrow's dawn. You enjoy the rest of your night!" he proceeded to yank Death by the hoodie out the door, Death managing to wave slightly before the door got shut directly in my face.

I went back to minding my own business, thinking, what just happened?

Death POV

Kain let go of my hood once the door was shut, "The first thing they tell you is not to interact with your human. You just had to break the rules, didn't you, Death?"

I bowed dramatically, "Guilty." I stood up, getting serious, "So you're a Reaper?"

Kain nodded, "Apparently I've gotta kill a couple of people at this party here. In rapid succession."

I drew my arm out to the side, and my scythe appeared in my hand. I wasn't going to attack Kain at the moment, but I sent across a very clear warning.

"Relax," Kain said, raising his hands up, "I'm not gonna kill your precious human. I'm only after guys."

The scythe evaporated, "Okay. Who are you trying to kill?"

Kain looked upward, as if in remembrance, and began to count off on his fingers, "Uh, David Yupia, Clyde Forrester, and Desmond Walkin."

"Alright," I said, "I'll help you."

"You can't do that," he said.

Rule follower.

"That's exactly why I'm doing it," I replied.

Kain sighed, "You're hopeless."

"I know."

-

The cool thing about being people like us was the fact that we could shift into different organisms. However, since Kain was a Reaper, he could only turn into things that kept to the darkness, like a bat, which is what he became, flying in through an open window and hiding successfully in the corner of a ceiling. I could only turn into naturally docile creatures, so I decided to become a fly, sailing through the same window and meeting up with Kain.

"Dude, a fly?" Kain asked in his weird bat language, "Seriously?"

I shrugged with my little fly arms and buzzed, "So are we gonna do this or what?"

Kain dropped from the ceiling, returning to his normal form, I doing the same.

"Let's get on with it, then," Kain said, looking for ways to kill his targets.

(A/N This has to be the most useless chapter ever created... Hope you liked it anyway XD)
