Asher's POV

I woke up early this morning, unable to sleep. It was 6 in the morning and the sun was just beginning to rise. Since I couldn't sleep any longer, I got out of bed and changed. I put on a pair of adidas black sweats, a red crew neck sweatshirt and running shoes. I then put on my headphones and went out the front door to go on a run.

I started running down the street towards the direction of Lauren's house. She lived about 2 miles from my house and I knew that she would be the one person who would tolerate me showing up at her house this early in the morning.

I feel like I'm at Lauren's house more then I am at my own. I live with my sister and my mom but we honestly don't spend much time together. Nothing tragic happened, my dad just flaked out after I was born. He found some other family that he thought was better than us. So now my mom works all the time to make up for not having any financial support from my dad. Me and my sister just feel kind of alone when we are by ourselves, so we tend to distract our selves by either going over to someone else's house or just simply staying out of ours.

Lauren knows that it's just me, my mom and my sister. She also knows that I feel alone. But it's weird to talk about how I feel when I'm not entirely sure that I even know how I feel.

It wasn't a super long run so it only took a little over 15 minutes for me to get to Lauren's. Since it was still so early in the morning, I didn't want to knock on her door and wake her whole family up. So instead I called her. The first time I called it went to voicemail. I called again and it rang several times. Lauren answered in a tired, groggy voice.

Lauren- "Ash it's 6:20."

Asher- "Well good morning to you too sunshine." I said laughing.

Lauren- "Why are you up this early?"

Asher- "I couldn't sleep. So do you want to go get breakfast with me?"

Lauren- "Uhhh." She said letting out a sigh. "Fine. Do you want me to pick you up? Or should I meet you there? Or what?"

Asher- "Actually I'm kind of right outside your front door, sooo you could just come open it up for me." I heard her let a small and still tired laugh.

Lauren- "You're not actually here-" She stopped mid sentence and let out a laugh. I looked upstairs towards her bedroom window and saw her peeking out of the blinds.

Lauren- "Oh my gosh. Hahaha. Alright I'm coming." She said realizing that I was outside by myself. A few moment later she opened her front door and I walked inside.

She had tired eyes with baggy clothes and messy hair. But to me, she still looked beautiful.

Asher- "Looking good Lo." I said jokingly as she slapped my arm, but really I was serious.

Lauren- "If your going to invite yourself over to my house at 6:30 am then this is what you have to expect." She said as she quietly laughed, trying not to wake up her family.

Lauren- "I'll just change really quick, then we will go."

Asher- "You don't need to change."

Lauren- "Asher, I'm in huge sweats and I haven't even brushed my hair."

Asher- "I'm in sweats too. Who cares. We won't see anyone this early in the morning." She laughed as she ran her hand through her hair.

Lauren- "Fine. But let me at least go brush the knots out of my hair." She said as she grabbed my hand and dragged me upstairs. She opened her bedroom door and walked to the bathroom as I sat down on her bed. She walked out of the bathroom, then stood in front of the mirror in her bedroom as she brushed her hair.

Lauren- "You know most people call before they come over to people's houses." She said with a wide smile as she looked at me through the mirror.

Asher- "But then that would have given you the option of saying no."

Lauren- "What makes you think I wouldn't say no to you today?" She said smirking. I smirked back as she turned around to look at me.

Asher- "Come on Laur. You can't look at me and then say no." She laughed but after a few moments her smile faded.

Lauren- "Why weren't you able to sleep?" She asked concerned. I shrugged my shoulders.

Lauren- "Ash... You can tell me if something is wrong." I looked at her with a small appreciative smile.

Asher- "I know. I just don't have anything to say... But what about you?" I said quickly changing the subject.

Lauren- "What are you talking about?"

Asher- "I mean, are you good? Since seeing Kevin?"

Lauren- "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"

Asher- "I saw the look on your face when you saw him." I saw an insecure look wash over her face. I spoke up, trying to lighten the mood.

Asher- "I told you, I can go punch him again. I'd love to do that for you." I said in a light tone with a smirk on my face. She smiled at me as she looked down at the floor. Her smile was still there when she looked back up at me.

Lauren- "You know that night when you did punch Kevin, my dad told me that I could never let you not be my friend because now he knows that you will always protect me." I laughed as I shook my head and looked at the floor.

Asher- "Good. So he won't get mad when he wakes up and your out having breakfast with me?" I said smiling at her.

Lauren- "No. Are you kidding me, you are like an angel in my parents eyes. Sometimes I think they like you more than me." She said laughing as she slid on a pair of shoes. I shrugged my shoulders and flashed a small side smirk.

Asher- "What can I say, I'm a very charming guy." I said knowing that comment would annoy her. She rolled her eyes as she started walking towards me to grab her purse from the bed.

Lauren- "Sooo charming." She said sarcastically.

Lauren- "Let's go get French toast!" She said happily as she started walking quickly toward the door. I looked at her as she opened the door and walked out.

Asher- "Anything for you." I said in a whisper so she wouldn't hear.

I was always happier around her. It's almost comforting to be around her. It was impossible to ignore.

Spending time with her felt more like home then my actual home.
