I looked up at the big bright sun and leaves dancing and fluttering with the breeze. It smelled so crisp, so... free. I looked at my feet next, specifically at my worn out shoes. I just couldn't bare to throw them away, no matter how old they were. I guess that's just the way I was. I stupidly smiled to myself, I couldn't help it. She would have loved it here, with the leaves and everything. The cities never fitted her, anyways. She was too pure and clean for the smog and plainness of the tall skyscrapers. I remembered now. The smiled quickly disappeared. There was no more "she" in my life. The connections and feelings for her should be gone by now. I wonder why it still lingered like this. I'm so stupid.
"Um... Excuse me," a strange voice called out. "Would you like to buy a lemonade?"
A boy handed me a cup of lemonade, smiling. Strange, it's autumn now, not summer. The lemonade season had passed. And, isn't he too old to be selling lemonade, in the first place. He looked to be around 15, my age. Shouldn't he be stressing about his math homework inside his house? Maybe, he was wondering the same about me. I mean, I should be inside doing my homework, but I'm strolling along, instead.
"So... Do you want some lemonade?"
"Oh, right. How much? And what is it for?"
"50 cents and 100% of the profit goes to the Special Kids Scouts."
Special kids? He doesn't look like he has any developmental problems. He looks like a normal, regular teenager. Maybe that's why he's raising money instead of doing his homework. It all makes sense now.
"It's not really for me. It's for my brother. He and his scout members didn't raise enough money this summer. Thought I could help."
"Oh, sorry."
"For what?"
"Never mind, I guess. I don't really like lemonade. Is it okay if I just give you a donation?"
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah."
I reached into my pockets for some change. Dang it... Only a Benjamin.
"I only got a 100 dollars on me right now. You can have it."
"Are you sure?!"
"Well, I did say I'm going to give you a donation, didn't I?"
"Yeah, but..."
"But 100 dollars is too much. It's okay I don't need it and, surely, my family doesn't either."
"Thank you! Can I at least ask for your name?"
"Avi."
"Oh, well, my name is-"
"Sorry gotta run!"
I turned around and ran, praying to make it in time for dinner.
