Chapter 7
‘Please tell me you didn’t’, Kim cried, ‘no no no’ Kim began to mumble over and over again. Cheryl watched as Kimberley leant against the wall and slid down it, hitting the floor harshly. She pulled her knees to her heaving chest, burying her face in them before bursting into tears. ‘Kimberley….Kimba….Kimberley….Kim’ Cheryl tries to get Kim’s attention, Kim looks up at her finally through glazed eyes before licking her lips slightly, ‘I didn’t do it…I couldn’t… I couldn’t go through with it’ Cheryl states. ‘You didn’t do it?’ Kim questions, ‘I didn’t do it’ Cheryl confirms as she lowers herself to the ground carefully, kneeling herself in from of Kim’s shaking body and rubbing her arms gently between her palms. ‘You’re still pregnant’ Kim whispered, Cheryl nodded slowly, biting her lip and turning her attention to the floor as if she was scared of Kimberley’s reaction. Kimberley took a deep breath before opening her mouth to speak. ‘I want that baby with you Chez’ she stated boldly, Cheryl raised her head to lock eyes with her wife, her eyes begging for answers. Kimberley took a deep breath before continuing with what she had to say, ‘I just want to take things slowly first and continue living at Nadine’s for a while before we sort things out, yeah?’ she cried as she tried desperately to stop more tears from falling. Cheryl nodded, ‘that’s fine, anything, I love you so much, I am so sorry’ cheryl cried as her own tears started to fall, ‘I know babe, I know…we still have so much to talk about but I do want to be with you…you’re my life, you know? You were the first person I went out with, the first person I fell in love with, my vows meant something to me, you know?’ kim mumbled through her tears, ‘I know babe, I know, I’m so sorry’ cheryl whispered, ‘come here’ kim whispered, cheryl edged towards her slightly before being drawn into a tight embrace by Kimberley, kim kissed her repeatedly on the neck before pulling away slightly and crashing their lips together.
Nadine watched as her two best friends reconciled right in front of her and couldn’t fight the smile that had began to make it’s way onto her face. ‘Come on guys, lets move this home rather than in the middle of the corridor’ Nadine joked, ‘fook off Nadz’ Kim snapped whilst pulling away from Cheryl and smiling slightly. ‘Do…Do you want to go out with me tonight’ Kim stammered as she tried desperately to avoid Cheryl’s gaze. Cheryl placed her finger beneath Kim’s chin, slowly pulling her head up to face her, ‘I’d love nothing more’ she whispered, ‘I meant what I said, I do want to take things slow but I thought we could maybe start by dating again’ Kim mumbled nervously. ‘Hey’ Cheryl whispered, ‘I understand completely Kim, we can go as slow as you want, snails pace if that’s what you want, aslong as I have you in my life, I don’t care’ she continued as she cupped Kim’s face between her palms. Kim smiled and placed a light kiss on Cheryl’s forehead before standing up, pulling Cheryl up with her. Cheryl clung tightly to Kim’s hand as they exited the clinic, it was almost as if she was scared that she would turn around and it would have all been a dream. She knew that it was all her fault that Kimberley had left in the first place and was insistent that she was going to treat Kim like a princess from now on and prove to Kim how much she really did love her.
Kim stares down at the huge pile of clothes that had previously been thrown onto her bed at Nadine’s. Since when was just picking an outfit for a date so hard? She guessed that it was because she was nervous; Cheryl made her nervous. Cheryl had never made her nervous before, when did that happen? She suspected that it was because even though she had decided to forgive her and give their marriage another go, she just couldn’t forget; she couldn’t forget what Cheryl had done, how much she had hurt her, it had felt like her heart was being wripped out and her heart wasn’t properly put back together again yet; it still ached. Kimberley took a seat on the bed placing herself among all of the clothes and just stared at her reflection in the mirror, she took in the sight of a girl that she barely knew anymore and wondered silently whether her and Cheryl would still fit together. Although they weren’t good together in the beginning, they ended up just connecting and fitting together like two puzzle pieces, two peas in a pod and eventually Kimberley had fallen in love with the one person who started by tearing her life apart. She had forgiven Cheryl then too, what was it with her always forgiving the one person who hurt her most. She absentmindedly picked up the vodka bottle that sat on her bedside cabinet and unscrewed it before taking a couple of harsh mouthfuls in a bid to calm her nerves. After taking a few deep breaths she stood up and once again put on the first outfit she had tried, examining herself in the mirror, she smiled slightly; at the end of the day, they were married and they should try to forget about everything else.
Kimberley paced up and down the living room whilst waiting for Cheryl to pick her up, she held the vodka bottle tight between her fingers, every so often taking a swig from it before resuming her pacing. ‘Kimberley?... Kimberley?...What are you doing?’ Nadine queried as she entered the room, Kim just glanced at her before taking another mouthful of vodka. ‘I’m waiting for Cheryl! I need something to calm my nerves’ she stated indignantly as she started shaking. ‘Kim, if you’re not careful, you’re going to be paraletic before she even gets here!, this is Cheryl we are talking about! This is the same girl you have been with since you were sixteen years old! What is there to be so nervous about?’ Nadine replied, I glanced up at the girl who had fast become one of my best friends, ‘what if we have just drifted apart, what if we just don’t fit together anymore? She hurt me so much Nadz’ I whispered. I could see her face begin to show recognation to how I was feeling, ‘Babes, why did you forgive her then?’ she questioned, ‘because I love her? Because I didn’t want her to get an abortion and maybe because I didn’t want her to feel like she had to get one because of me?’ I mumbled before bursting into tears. ‘Hey’ Nadz whispered as she wrapped her arms around my shoulders and pulled me into her embrace. ‘It’s going to be ok babe! You love eachother, she does love you, you know? And you can take things as slow as you want! It’s all in your hands babe! Cheryl’s not pushing you, she knows it’s going to take a while’ Nadine whispered into my ear as she ran her hands up and down my back. I nodded into her neck, ‘thankyou’ I mumbled incoherently, ‘no problem, now go wash your face, make yourself look beautiful, not that you have too, Cheryl still fancies you when you’re in your pyjamas with bed hair’ Nadine giggled, Kim joined in slightly, ‘she does’ Kim agreed with a small smile before disappearing into the bathroom.
