The last ride

Chapter 1

I was sick of it every day waking up at 5:00 am and going to work at the flea market, I hated it but that was what my parents wanted me to do. They wanted me to take over the family business one day. But I really wanted to do something else, horse riding. That was my passion. We had one horse, Amazon she was practically my baby we did everything together. I made sure she was well taken care of even on those days where my parents completely forget about her. 

"Gabriella go grab some more dog food out of the back were out up here" my mom said to me as she checked out the last customer of the day. "Ok mom" I replied as I made my way to the back of the store. I hardly ever complained, I guess I just kind of always tried to keep peace between the family. Our store had a good reputation and I didn't want to be the one to ruin it.  I grabbed the dog food and walked back to the front of the store, laid it down and walked out the front door, 7:00 closing time the best part of the day. This is when I got to see Amazon we only lived right across the road from our store so I usually just walked to and from work I stopped at the edge of the road and made sure no cars were coming then I ran across past the road, jumped over our fence and opened the door to the barn. There she was, looking at me with those big brown eyes, she was an American Quarter Horse, brown with white socks on her feet. I grabbed her lead and opened the stable doors. Come on girl I said as I latched the lead onto her. We got her mostly because my mom used to ride but once she fractured her vertabrae she couldn't ride anymore so she past her on to me.

We had a big pasture, we had tracks for her to run on and hurdles for her to jump over. I jumped on her back, come on Amazon I said as I nudged her in the leg with my boot she started to jog. I loved how the wind felt on my face as she ran. We jumped over hurdles and ran the track it was very easy to loose track of time.  I looked at my watch 10:00 I better head in Amazon I said as I lead her back to the barn. I walked into the house my parents were asleep, I walked up to my room and fell fast asleep.
