Mr. Latren walked to the front of the class, his tall stature towering over the students sitting in their desks. His loud voice enveloped the classroom as usually as he began to speak.
"Alright class, you probably all know that today's a special holiday-"
"Then why don't we have a day off?" A small troll interrupted in the back of the classroom.
Mr. Latren ignored him, continuing on. "Many of us know this day as..."
The whole class yelled, almost in unison,"Heroes' Day!"
He nodded, his ruffled brown hair bobbing.
"A lot of people celebrate this holiday, but not everyone knows what it's about."
A boy with flame-red hair and tiny bits of sparks flying out of him raised his hand.
"My momma told me all about Heroes' Day. My favorite is Azar because she's like m-"
Mr. Latren cut him off. "Yeah, good job Sarren, but I'll be explaining."
Sarren looked down at his desk, his cheeks bright red (and flaming).
"Heroes' Day was first created fifty years ago, to honor four people who changed our history. Though the holiday was made fifty years ago, the actual time of the heroes was one hundred years ago."
He continued on, pacing the front of the class.
"The four heroes names were Azar, Scott, Marin, and Oliver. Those names don't seem familiar to a lot of people, but 'The Flame, The Prince, The Fish, and the Bird' may seem recognizable. The Prince, Scott, is rumored to have run away from the human kingdom. Yes, there used to be kingdoms- I'll tell you later, but they were one of the main influences to change kingdoms into one big society, like we have now. Anyway, Scott had been the prince, heir of Lord Larendorm. The reasons he ran away were never figured out. His only safe haven was Trollcity, a kingdom at the time, where they accepted every species from any kingdom. Along the way, he met a girl from the Flame Kingdom named Azar. They became friends, as they were both headed to a safe haven- Trollcity itself. A few days later, our other two heroes, Oliver and Marin, met. Marin had been a mermaid and Oliver was an animal-human."
Mr. Latren looked around at the confused faces, and heard muttering.
"Animal-human?" A small human said.
He continued. "An animal-human was a 'shapeshifter', they could turn from animal to human in moments. Their kingdom was eradicated, which we'll be covering soon. Continuing on, our other two heroes were on their way to Trollcity, too."
Mr. Latren sighed and took a deep breath.
"Later that night there were rumors that the animal-human kingdom had been attacked. Not like the fairy kingdom, which we studied earlier this year, but it was... gone."
The class's confused expressions returned.
"Rumors were spread that it simply disappeared. No one believed it, and everyone went to sleep. Except for two. Scott and Azar. The two snuck out at separate times, determined to find out what happened. Once they arrived at the seen, they realized it WAS gone. No rubble, no remains- except for a few human looking figures in the distance, walking away. Scott stood out in the field, and Azar saw him- not recognizing him. She went to attack him but Scott proved that it was him. Meanwhile, during this whole scene, the human figures in the distance noticed the two. They came running by, attacking both of them. According to Azar's sights, Scott had been injected with something by one of the... people."
He paused, shaking his head.
"Once Azar scared them off with her flame powers, she told Scott that she'd seen a syringe go into him. He rejected this fact, but she insisted they go to the medic. They did, and the medic saw nothing in his system. They went to sleep after that- and in the morning, he was gone- and so was his sword. I'm going to skip some details, which you will read in your homework tonight."
The class sighed in unison.
Mr. Latren let out a low laugh. "Even though it's a holiday you aren't escaping daily homework."
"We never do." Spoke a mermaid. People nodded in agreement.
He smiled and spoke again. "Anyway, some parts of the story are... a little inappropriate for class."
A few kids in the corner winked.
The rest of the class stared at them with disgust.
"People discovered that this new species that destroyed the animal-human kingdom were called the Glitch. Oliver didn't care, he was worried about his family- who were dead. The next night, during the kingdom's most time of confusion, Scott returned to Trollcity- except he was different. He had become one of these 'glitches'. When he came into Trollcity, he killed their leader and tried to find Azar. Meanwhile, Marin and Oliver were hanging out, which probably wasn't the best thing to be doing at the time. Azar and Scott fought, until it was too much and Scott captured her. She demanded Marin to put her in a cell while he took Oliver. At first he refused, until he threatened to kill Oliver. A few days later... Scott became even more insane. Oliver had escaped with the help of Marin, and Scott had plans for a circus. He captured Oliver once again, torturing him for weeks, having no connection to Trollcity, until he told everyone there would be a circus. He reserved the front rows for Azar and Marin. What he did at the circus was, well, atrocious. He started off the circus semi-happy, as happy as it could have been at that time. He played a game called 'This or That'-"
"I love that game!" A child announced.
"Uhuh, yeah, good for you. " Mr. Latren said, clearly annoyed.
"He asked simple questions, until he asked... 'Would you rather shot yourself in the head or have the whole Trollcity blow up?'. He chose to shoot himself."
He stopped pacing.
"He died, and saved Trollcity. His last words have been forgotten, legend says only remembered by one- Marin. He was crushed. Azar stormed off, determined to defeat Scott. She came up to him, her rage untamed. She attacked him, she failed. Then she thought. She looked at him, straight in the TV-head he had, and looked at the OFF button. Sure, she would've thought it was pointless, her only chance- but she tried. She ran, only barely pressing it. He froze. He fell. He was off. An invincible enemy stopped by their own physical form. Scott returned to normal, but it took years for people to even look at him normally again. And that wasn't everyone, only a few." He took a breath. "Any questions?"
Every hand shot up.
He called on a small girl in the front, who was bouncing with excitement. "What were the ships?!" She shouted.
"The... What?" He asked, confused.
"The ships! Relationships, duh!" She fumed.
"That doesn't really matter."
"It matters to ME!"
He called on another person.
And another, until the whole class's questions were answered.
Everybody loved the story.
"Ready for more history?"
Everybody seemed excited for once.
"The three continued their adventures, another one joining them and causing more mayhem and disaster. You'll read about that tonight, too."
"I'd like to continue on to what they changed and contributed to our world. They are undoubtably the most important people in our history. They made seperate kingdoms into the big society we have now, with acceptance. They added a new species to our complex society- the glitch. Not violent like the original, but calm and... not violent.. yeah. Years later, after Marin consistently telling the leaders of kingdoms to legalize g-" the bell rang.
Everyone sighed.
Mr. Latren smiled. People were interested in his class.
"Remember, homework is to read up on our four great heroes!"
As the class left, Mr. Latren let out a low laugh.
"Four great heroes... time for them to arise again."
Ink fell from his hands, his face started to glitch.
"A new generation of heroes is about to rise."
"And meet the same demise as poor old bird-boy."
