It's always been cold and dark here, inside the gigantic structure I called home. Not much light to light up the dark hallways and rooms. I do not recall what my father looks like or what had happened to him, he had taught me how to play the piano in his free time. I live alone, only with my mother and a few close relatives.
I only talk to my cousin, Mizo, and avoid my mother as much as I can. Mizo is strange though and I'm always too busy attending to my studies which are completely dull and useless. I hate this life, even if we are basically drowning in money because of my father's company, that has now been taken by slimy hands of my mother.
Mother has always expected me to be perfect in everything, especially education . I was interested in some of the subjects, some I completely despised. My mother hated when I practiced the piano, probably because it reminded her of her husband. The last time I practiced, I remember being attacked by someone and blacked out. I assumed it was my mother, but how could I be sure?
I recall one day, when mostly everyone had left the building's grounds to attend some sort of gathering. I was left with my cousin. As I said before, my cousin was rather strange and I never knew why, but that day caused him to become stranger. My cousin glanced at me, "I don't know how you've managed to live here, Mikko. I never see your mom either..."
I gave a weak smile, "She's busy with dad's company or something.. I'm happy she's keeping 'us' alive.."
Mizo giggled, "what do you mean 'us'? There's no one here, except the family, which is only a few people, and the servants here."
"Just 'us'." I replied.
Mizo decided to explore the building and dragged me along. I lived in the house for about thirteen years and I have no damn idea what's in any of the rooms besides my own. I never saw it as "home," I've read stories of homes, but this was no home. A home was comforting, some place you could run to in a time of need, warm and happy. This was just a mansion my father and men had fixed up before he disappeared.
It was in the middle of a large dark forest with an opening where the mansion was made. It had a fountain in the front but it wasn't in use anymore.
Mizo continued pulling on my fancy sleeves, eventually I pulled away and just slowly walked behind him. The mansion creaked beneath our feet and it felt as the hallways were getting darker. Hell, I had no idea where we were, but that didn't stop Mizo.
"This place is a lot darker than I remember.." squinting my eyes, I glanced up at the wall's of the building, I saw old lanterns for a lit fire all along the walls. I checked my pockets for anything to lit up the way. Nothing. They were empty. I let out a bored gasp.
Mizo had already taken off farther into the darkness. I couldn't see or hear him anymore, but I continually walked down into the dark. "..Mizo.?" I whispered. No reply. I stopped in the hallway. "Don't these damn hallways ever end..?"
I heard voices coming from farther in. I took the time to think, I haven't really explored this place and I only stay in the main areas. My knowledge of my home was rather dusty, but I needed to find my cousin before mother found us snooping.
I bummed into something.
