Chapter 1
Shade herself

"SHADE NIGHTHALE!" Mary Barnes screeched. 'Oh shit i was caught!' Shade thought. "Yes , ma'am?" Shade tried to sound calm. "WHY were you putting deadly nightshade in my tea?" Mary hollered. 'Doesn't hurt to defend myself a bit.' Shade thought. "I did no such thing , Ms. Mary." Shade defended herself. "Don't lie to me , bitch. Go to your room. No complaining." Mary pointed towards the door. Shade walked out of the room , head high , showing no signs of defeat.

Shade was special. She had unusuality all about her. For example, her hair. Parted directly down the middle , the left side was black and the right side was white. Her eyes were special too. Her right eye was all black , not a spec of white or any other color , while her left eye was white , pupil excluded. Shade parted her right hair differently, over one eye , for she had a small diamond located in her upper right forehead. Shade didn't really care but her teachers informed her it'd be best for some kids might try to beat her up and rip it out. The diamond was shiny blue. The color of the sky's reflection in the lake. Her skin was pale white , and she was skinny. Shade had pale , thin , lips but that only made her more beautiful. Boys at her school wanted to like her but couldn't for they all had girlfriends and were informed that if anyone liked her , acknowledged her , or talked to her, they'd be bullied by Queen Tiffany of the school herself.

Shade went to her room , and sat down on her bed. 'Who gives a shit about deadly nightshade? It'd only kill her. Oh wait. She's already a demon.' Shade thought, grumpily. This was her first attempt at murdering her stupid babysitter. Shade was 16 , she didn't need a babysitter but her parents liked Mary so they continued to hire her. Shade wasn't close with her parents. No. Mary was more of a nanny , Shade's parents were never there. They left her with Mary about 13 years back. Shade's phone rang. "Hello?" Shade answered. "Shade , hi!" It was Shade's father. "Hi , dad." Shade wondered if Mary told them about her attempt. "Sweetie , have you signed those papers yet? It's vital you do." Her dad sounded sweet. Too sweet to be her dad almost. "No dad , i'm not signing them!" Shade hated her dad for this reason. Ever since they found out that Shade had been left with a 200 billion dollar check in an account that she could not access until she was 18 , her parents have been pressing her to sign the money over to them. When Shade figured this out , she was furious. "C'mon sweetie , it's for the best. Please?" Her dad asked. "No! I'm not giving you the money! I don't care what you tell Mary to do to me , I refuse!" Shade hung up. Mary was very abusive. Shade knew her dad would call Mary and tell her to beat up Shade. Shade just didn't care.

Shade woke up to the sound of thunder. She released a sigh of relaxation. Shade loved rain. Beep beep . Shades phone buzzed. "Hey honey! Heard you haven't signed the papers! Please do honey! It'd be so kind of you. We've located your grandma! She's very ill. The money would help majorly." Her mom had texted her. Shade replied. "Dad doesn't have a grandma , he was adopted." Then she called her phone company. "Hi , i'd like to change my number." About 2 hours later , Shade had a new number, and had changed Mary's. Shade had a plan. She grabbed a magazine for housing and started reading. Shade smiled to herself.

That next day, Shade grabbed her duffel bag and packed as many things she could. She filled a backpack of some food and grabbed her phone and phone charger. Shade went out into the small backyard and hopped the fence. She ran off. Mary hadn't noticed Shade's departure , in fact , Mary was still asleep. Shade boarded a bus that would take her to a city called Night City. A fascinating place , Shade remembered reading. Nobody knows where the city came from or who built it. Shade smiled. A woman across from her gave Shade a worried look. Shade ignored it.

Finally they arrived in Night City. Shade got off and went to her new house she purchased. It was gigantic. A boy who was running by nearly toppled her. "Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry!" Shade helped him up. "It's alright!" He was strange to Shade. The boy had jet black hair , blazing green eyes , and a weird mark on his forehead. "What's your name?" Shade asked. The boy pointed to his mark "Gears. Naw , it's really Johnathan but everyone goes by their mark name." He said. "Could I ask you, your name?"he asked so politely. "I'm Shade , Shade Nighthale." She replied. "Woah.Really?" Gears asked. "Yes.." Shade replied. "Huh, well , tell nobody but the person that built this city was named Shade." He said. Shade was shocked. "Weird." She said to herself. It for some reason makes me think of something , but I don't know what it is . Shade thought. "Yea , you see , this town , it's magical. Let me explain." Gears said , seeing the look on Shade's face. "Once upon a time, a little girl had an idea , she bought a notebook and began writing. She wrote of this town , and the people in it. What she didn't know was that the city was being built as she wrote. I am the main character so I know all this. She wrote many adventures. One day , she stopped writing. She didn't want us anymore. She thought it was childish and stupid. She hid all the books and the last one was not finished. A guy found the book and saw it wasn't finished and he created himself as an evil dictator. He lives here now and has the last book and continues writing , eighteen notebooks are filled. We wish Shade would come back but she hasn't." Gears explained sadly. Suddenly it hit her. Shade remembered everything. "Gears.... I'm Shade. I remember writing them now!" Shade squealed with happiness. "You do look like Shade but here is one thing she has that you don't ." Gears reached out and moved the hair covering Shade's diamond. Gears dropped the hair and took a step back with a gasp. "It is you!" He exclaimed with happiness. "You can help us!" He hugged Shade. Shade stood there frozen. She had never been hugged. Ever. Shade waited for him to release her before she said anything. "Okay , so what do I do?" Shade asked. "You have to get all seven notebooks and the last one and erase him , if you get the last notebook , and erase him , he won't have any magic left."gears said. "Easy! Considering the fact I have no clue where my notebooks are and I ran away from my old town!" Shade said with sarcasm. Gears looked at her. "Oh." He said sadly. Shade shrugged. "Want to come inside?" She asked.

Lord Magormi sat in his chair, gazing in a mirror. He pressed a button and a elderly woman entered the room. "Servant , bring me a glass of wine , white." He ordered. The servamt said nothing and left , returning a few minutes later with a glass of white wine. She set it to his left, bowed then left. Lord Magormi stared into the wine before sipping it. A breeze ruffled his hair and he peered into a mirror. He had black and white hair. The right side was right and the left was black. His eyes were opposite of shade's and he had a black diamond in his upper right forehead. He was the opposite of shade. He planned to kill her. For when the twins would meet, the ying yang symbol would be completed. It could blow up the universe. Lord Magormi knew this and was planning to find her. And when he found her. He would kill her. He reviewed his plans out loud for the millionth time. What he didn't know was gears was right outside his room.

"SHADE!!!" Gears pounded the door with his fist. Shade answered. "What the fuck do you want? Don't you know it's like , three in the morning?" She growled. "Yes but Lord Magormi wants you dead!" He hollered. "Shut up! Do you WANT people to hear you? Get inside." She waved him into the house. Gears ran inside and began explaining frantically. "Okay , Gears , you're making no sense , calm down and explain slowly." She told him. He did as told. "So the over lord of this town I supposedly created wants to kill me?" Shade asked aloud. "Yep that is about it." Gears said. Shade put her hand on her head. She sighed. "Oh lord. This isn't good." She said. Gears wanted to hug her. If only ... No she didn't like him like that. She was his only friend. He couldn't jeopardize that. Shade, almost sensing that he wanted a hug, pulled him in for one. Gears was shocked at first , but then hugged her back , taking in her sweet scent. He backed off , "no matter what lord Magormi does, I will not let him hurt you." Gears smiled. Shade smiled and lightly punched his arm.
