I woke up to an annoying beeping sound and an unfamiliar room. I groaned out loud. My head was killing me and my throat felt like someone had poured sand down it!  Someone handed me a glass of water and some medication which I gratefully took and swallowed.

After doing so, I took in my surrounding. It was a white room that smelled like disinfectant and medicine. Yep, I was in the hospital. The, I noticed Selena standing by my side, looking at me worriedly. So she was the one who gave me the water and the medicine. I smiled at her and asked confused, “What am I doing in the hospital?”

“You really don’t remember?” She asked me as she raised one of her eyebrows - a skill which I had yet to master.

I frowned. Suddenly, all the memories of what happened that evening came flooding back. Selena. Mr Bright. The water controlling.

I asked in a shaky voice, “How long was I out?”

“About twelve hours. Its 7 am now.” Selena replied.

“Go and rest, but I expect answers when you get back.” She continued with a pointed glint in her eyes.

I sighed out loud. It was obvious what she was talking about. I nodded reluctantly. Keeping secrets from my best friend should not be on my list of problems right now.

She exited the room with a final glance in my direction. I looked at the water in the cup on the table and cautiously brought my hand up. A ball of water rose and moved upwards as well. Well, at least now I know it wasn’t a dream. Many weird things has happened to me in my life, but this was just pushing it.

I sighed loudly and fell back down to the extra-uncomfortable bed. I laid there for about 10 minutes, trying my hardest to fall asleep, before finally rising and going to the bathroom for a shower.

After my shower, I changed into my lazing-at-home clothes and went back to my dorm where I was sure to be bombarded with questions.

The whole way there, the other orphans kept staring and pointing at me. As if I was a freak of nature. On the bright side, I now know how an alien who crash landed on Earth feels like. Doing my best to ignore them, I continued walking.

Back at the dorm, Selena practically attacked me. She pounced on me, dragged me down onto a chair and demanded answers with her hands crossed over her chest. I looked at her dead in the eye and asked, “The truth?”

Selena nodded determinedly. I took a deep breath and started explaining everything I knew in one breath. It sounded a lot like this, “I-found-out-i-have-powers-over-water-after-i-realised-all-the-water-was-shaking-when-i-stood-up-for-you-and-then-blacked-out-from-shock-and-that’s-how-you-found-me-in-the-woods.”

Selena’s eyes widened, then narrowed, as if scrutinizing me to see if I was lying. However, after finding no trace of a lie on my face, she brought a cup of water from the toilet and practically shoved it in my face.

“Show me.” She said, or practically ordered me. I nodded and brought my hand up. Just like before and what I expected, the water did as well.

Selena’s eyes widened so much I thought they were going to pop out. Unable to stop myself, I burst out laughing, and I mean full out laughing. Selena’s face looked hilarious! Her eyes were like giant gobstoppers!

Of course, Selena having absolutely no idea what I was talking about decided to look at me as if I had a pink and blue polka-dotted head. Which actually I just showed her something equally weird so she’s forgiven.

I quickly sobered up and looked at her. Her face was scrunched up in confusion. She opened her mouth then closed it again. And again. And again. She looked like a goldfish out of water. I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing again.
