Alexander Pov-
The air smelt of roses, and the sun shone on the rivers water. Swans swam around in the crystal water. Birds chirped happily, and the sound of laughter filled the air. Bicyclists road around the cement, and girls sat around playing truth or dare.
I didn't pay them much attention, I was focused on my morning jog though the woods by the river. After I ran track in high school, I became addicted to being fit. Like a fine wine, or beer.
Coming around a corner, I come face to face with a row of rose bushes. Two red, three white, and five yellow. I stopped running, and stroll though the flowers, stopping every once in a while leaning down to sniff one.
"I've never actually seen a guy smell the flowers," a chuckle rose from behind me. "And I thought I saw everything." I turned on my heel, and came face first with hazel eyes, with speaks of gold here and there. She smirked, and placed her hands on her hips.
I sucked in a breath, and exhaled slowly. I backed away from her slightly, and rubbed the back of my neck. "Heh you caught me red handed." I let out a little chuckle, and brought my gaze back to the roses. Bees flew around happily, landing every once and a while on a flower.
"Aren't guys supposed to be I don't know, tough?" She walked up beside me, and I smelt lavender perfume.
"We are but sometimes we like to stop and smell the roses." I picked a red one and sniffed it.
She laughed. The delightful sound made me smile and I laughed along with her. "I've never heard a guy say 'somtimes we like to stop and smell the roses.'" She laughed softly and smiled.
"First time for everything huh?"
She picked a white rose and smelled it. "I guess they are kind of, well, pretty." She messed with the petals. I walked up to her, and took it from her hand gently.
"Look at me." She looked at me, with those amazing hazel eyes. I placed the rose behind her ear, and backed off. The rose shone in her brown-black hair, and complimented her tanned completion. Light pink flashed on her cheeks and she looked down.
I cleared my throat almost awkwardly, and turned back to the bushes.
"I uh.. I should probably go know. I'm supposed to get to an important job interview." I looked up from the roses, and looked at her, meeting her gaze. "See you around Alexander ?"
"Sure. Bye Valentine." She smiled one last time, and turned around and jogged down the path. I stared at the place where she stood, and sighed. What are you doing Alex? You've fallen for a girl waaay out league. I turned toward the trail and continued my jog in peace, my thoughts still on Valentine.
I walked into Maggie's diner, and was greeted by friendly smiles, and the smell of bacon. I smiled and walked into the back, and grabbed my note pad, and apron.
"Hey Alex." I turned around, and came face-to-face with neon green hair.
"Oh hey, Salem." I smiled at the little munchkin, and then walked to the front of the restaurant, eager to do my job.
Three hours into the job, I heard someone call me from the back.
"Yeah ?" I wipped the sweat off my brow, and got a new note book. Salem turned on her heel, and chewed on some bubble gum.
"Oh hey Alex. There was a group seated in table twelve. Can you get them for me ?" She smiled, and walked off into the kitchen. I sighed, and walked back out to the tables.
Table twelve was reserved for special occasions. We hardly ever used this table, because it was meant for birthdays; and apparently, people don't want to be in some crusty dinner, when their child is having a birthday party.
Rounding the corner, the sound of screaming and laughing filled my ears, and little kids ran around, chewing on lollipops, and licorice. I walked up to the first table, and flipped open my note pad.
"Hi welcome to Maggie's, what would you like to drink today ?" I smiled sweetly, at the couple. They smiled back.
"We're just waiting for our daughter," the woman responded, in the thickest Italian accent I've heard. I looked into their eyes, one at a time. The woman had plain brown eyes, with a single gold ring around the pupil, in both eyes. The father how ever, had hazel eyes with golden flecks in them . . Wait a minute. .
"Mama papa I'm back." I turned on my heel, and came face-to-face, with none other then Valentine. Her jaw dropped when she saw me. I looked up and down for a split second. She had on a white crop top, and booty shorts. She was at least five inches taller then she was this morning. Probably because she was in black six inch heels(pic included.) She smiled awkwardly at me, and looked at both of her parents. She walked past me, her brown hair brushing against my shoulder, and I internally shivered.
She sat down and pulled the menu to her face close as possible; trying to avoid me ? I looked back at the parents. "So, what can I get you started with Val - ".I paused, and cleared my throat. "Folks ?" I finished awkwardly, and I saw Valentine struggle to keep a laugh in.
"I would like the iced ice please." The woman said and smiled.
"And you sir."
"Coffee." I nodded, and scribbled it down on my note pad.
I looked over at Valentine, she looked back at me, her eyes shimmering from the the light.
"Shirley temple." I had to bite down on my lip to stop myself from smiling.
"Alright, I'll get those drinks." I turned on my heel, and walked back into the kitchen, silently thanking Salem for the opportunity.
