"Okay, that's all. You're good to go. Just make sure you keep up the exercising, eating well, and make sure you take all of your medications daily." Doctor Laura told me.
I have been here since 7 o'clock this morning and it is currently about to be 10 o'clock. I was just supposed to have a check-up but some results were unclear so they had to get more blood to re-do the tests. "Yeah I know, you tell me this every time I see you." It was true, every time I come to the doctor she told me the same thing.
"I am aware sweetie, but I'm just trying to make sure you know what you're supposed to do. We wouldn't want you getting any worse than you already are." She smiled before leaving the room.
My mom then turned to face me. "I get that the same routines with the doctors could get old and annoying sometimes, but you could be a little nicer to Doctor Laura. She's just trying to help ya know?"
I knew what she was telling me was true and I don't mean to be rude to her nor anyone, it's just that all of this is overwhelming. "Can we go now? I need to get to school." With that we left.
The car ride was silent. The only sound was of the quiet motor from the car. After what felt like a lifetime, we finally arrived at my school. "I can sign myself in, I'll see you after school, love you." I didn't stay to hear her response, I quickly got out of the car and walked into school.
This is so embarrassing. They took blood from me for the tests but I also got four shots, two in each arm, and I had gotten an IV in the opposite arm the previous night when I had gone to the emergency room. I had only left the band aids on because I didn't have enough strength to reach and take them off. Lunch just ended and I was currently walking to my fifth period class. I'm usually the first one there, but due to all the blood being taken from me and the lack of sleep, I had no strength. I was the last to arrive to class, just seconds after the tardy bell rang. This was odd, so when I walked in I received stares from every student in the class. I was very uncomfortable so I quickly rushed to my seat.
I had leadership and our class was in the upper auditorium. I sunk down in my seat and stared up at the ceiling and paid no attention to what the teacher was saying. That is, until he was standing right in front of me.
"Kimberly, did you hear what I said?" he asked, annoyance clear on his face. I knew he hated when students didn't pay attention to him but I was just so tired and drained of my energy.
"Sorry Mr. Emmanuel. I'm just so tired, could you please repeat what you said?" Even though I was in no mood to do work, I knew it had to be done.
"I said, 'Choose a partner and you will be writing acrostic poems using certain leadership words that I picked for you all.'" He no longer looked annoyed, he now looked concerned as he looked at my arms. "Are you alright?" he asked.
"I'm fine. I was just getting from blood taken at the doctor's office. No big deal." I shrugged as if I didn't care. But that was just it, it was a big deal. I did care. But I was not about to show any more signs of weakness towards him.
"Alright, well since you never speak in this class I'm going to assume that you do not know anyone." I nodded and gave him a small smile, telling him that he was right. He chuckled, "You and Jose will be partners. Jose! You two will be partners for this assignment." he said while gesturing between us with his index finger. "You may go outside to work in the hall if you want." With that he left.
I was sitting in the second row and Jose was sitting at the very top. I made no attempt to move because I had no intention on working. I sunk back into my chair and stared at the ceiling again. I heard him approaching and I hoped to God that he wouldn't mention all of the band aids on my arms. He walked past me and took the seat next to me.
