"Collete!" She woke up quickly, afraid something was wrong. Strong arms shook her shoulders... They were covered in scars, blood, dirt, and tattoos. "Andrew...?" She asked, already sitting up. Suddenly, she realized that her brother, Leo, and Calix weren't in the room. "Where's Cal? And where's my brother?!" She questioned, clearly panicked.
"Cali is bandaging Leo's recent wounds." He stated calmly. She knew he wasn't as calm as his tone of voice stated. He looked angry, but there were tears in his eyes. She put her hand on his cheek. "Breathe. It's happened before, we know he'll be okay." She muttered, barely audible.
"Collete... He.." He started. Oh shit.
He was crying.
"It was on his stomach." He looked down, clearly to hurt to show his face. She sat there, finally getting strong enough to say something. "C'mon, lets go see him. He should be okay now!" She smiled.
She got out of her bed, standing on her injured feet. Collete took hold of his arm. He stood as well. To
'He was so tall!' She thought.
'Or maybe I'm just small.' She thought, correcting herself, and clearly disappointed in her height. "Stay here, you perv." She said in a joking way. He laughed.
Oh thank god. He's okay now.
She walked into the broken bathroom. Torn curtains, cracked tiles... She didn't care, she just pulled on some dirt covered denim shorts along with a purple cat hoodie, rolling the sleeves up to her elbow. She grabbed her pistol off the counter, tucking it into her sweatshirt pocket, and then changing the bandaid on her nose. She had gotten a scratch while falling in the woods, trying to get away from those stupid brain-eaters.
She walked out, looking up to face Andrew. "Okay, let's go." He nodded, smiling.
They opened the door, rather the door collapsed. Everything was so... Broken. Andrew took a step outside, his machete strapped to his jeans, along with his handgun. Collete stepped after him, and they started walking in the direction of the somewhat familiar run down hospital.
Walking over fallen, broken, cracked building pieces, stumbling over twigs and rocks, avoiding branches, bushes, and trees in general. Everything was... Quiet. Too quiet.
"After we get these two, we're going to head to Area 6 in search of human remains/survivors." Andrew spoke. Collete nodded. People often took advantage of Andrew because of his disorder, but ever since Collete did she's been careful not to. This man could be scary as hell. She'd seen him take down 14 zombies in one shot!
But she also really loved his curly hair, and pretty hazel eyes.
But he was a rebel, he ended up leading and starting this group. She looked away from him and up ahead. There was so much smoke and fog, but everything else seemed clear and quiet. It was super creepy. "Aren't you scared?" Collete asked, not bothering to look at him. "There it is!" He pointed to the house - the house that happens to look like a boulder at this point.
He WAS afraid, but he wouldn't admit it. So he had changed the subject.
They ran. The doors to the building fell with a single knock, the cities these days weren't the best - makes sense, with the constant attacks and deaths and rubble.
They walked inside the building, Collete right behind Andrew.
Their steps echoed in the large, empty halls, eventually reaching a door with some letters on it. The letters were smudged and faded, they didn't really care what it said anyway. They turned the handle slowly, Collete pulling out her pistol and Andrew holding his machete, quickly walking in only to see Calix, Leo, and.... Another guy? His eye was bandaged.. But Collete couldn't take her eyes off him. "This is Oliver!" Calix said rather brightly, smiling like an idiot, like he had read her mind. Leo waved to Andrew and Collete, Andrew looked away a bit embarrassed. Collete never knew why this happened, but she had a good guess. Oliver smiled and laughed a bit. "Hi! I'm Oliver. I just so happen to know these two," he extended his hand infront of Calix and Leo. "But what are your names?" He asked simply. Andrew looked back up and the two looked over at Calix. He nodded, and they looked back over to Oliver.
"I'm Andrew." He spoke, quite serious.
"And I'm Collete!" She smiled. She really liked this guy! Leo stood up, falling against Calix for a minute. "I thought it was stomach only?" Andrew asked, clearly concerned. Were these two hiding something? "Well, we were attacked on our way here." We knew what he meant by that, he didn't have to explain. "I fought them, but Leo interrupted and his leg was-" We nodded. "Then we got back up and heard something, that's when we found Oliver. His eye wasn't doing very well, so Cal cleaned us both up." Leo finished. "Yeah. So there aren't any other survivors in Area 5, sir." Andrew nodded. "We'll head towards Area 6 in a couple hours. Does anybody have any food or water?" He asked. Oliver nodded over to his backpack. He sat up, Collete picking it up and unzipping it. "Woah! I'm not even gonna ask how you got all this!" She said rather cheerfully. She passed out water bottles and gave everyone a piece of cheese.
Hell, Leo ended up sleeping for a few minutes!
Everything seemed so calm in this moment, everything was so quiet and fair. Smiles, laughter, happiness filled the room. It was as if Collete and Leo didn't lose their parents. It was as if Oliver hadn't lost his entire family. It was as if Calix hadn't lost his grand parents, it was as if Andrew hadn't been taken advantage of... It was like the zombies hadn't come at all. Well, until Calix hushed everyone due to the sound of dragging footsteps echoing through the empty hallways. It was then that they were dragged back into the harsh reality of where they were and what was happening. Collete dragged a finger to her lips and everyone went silent. She drew her pistol and had her back against the wall, right be the door. Grumbling came from directly outside the now shut door. She turned to her brother, furrowed her brows, and put up her index finger. He put up his index finger too, taking it down when Collete did the same, smile on his face turning more to a serious look, standing up and heading the opposite side of the door, back against the wall. Oliver has handed him a baseball bat. Oliver and Calix were by Collete's side and Andrew was by Leo's. He kicked the door open, and 3 undead bodies limping inside. One of them turned around, Collete set her index finger and the trigger and shut her eyes, pulling it back. The loud bang filled the room, causing the other two bodies to turn and come closer. Collete was hesitant, so Leo used the bat and hit one of the bodies, Andrew decapitating the other. The two bodies fell, and everyone held their breath - finally releasing when they were sure they were dead. Nobody in the room was happy anymore.
"Let's move. We need to get to Area 6 and see if we can find any survivors or supplies." Andrew stated, everyone nodded, Oliver grabbing his backpack and swinging it over his shoulders. Leo held the bat out. "Here," he whispered. "No, you might need it." Oliver whispered back, winking.
And with that, they all carefully exited the building, holding all their index fingers up and quickly pulling them down when they started to move.
