Chapter Two

(Devin's P.O.V.)

I walked past the counter lady, trying hard to keep myself together. She gave me a sympathetic look and said she was sorry for my loss. But what does she care? She must be so used to saying that to people. All the loved ones lost in this building, all the hopes of survival, crushed with the sound of a continuous beep, all the desperate looks on peoples faces as they leave this place alone when they walked in with someone very important to them. I never expected this to happen. Nobody ever does. You could be happily living with the one you love, planning futures and being all lovey one second, then the next kissing them goodbye in a hospital. I just looked back at her with blood shot eyes and whispered under my breath "thank you". It was the best i could do without breaking down.

I walked out the door of the hospital, leaving my parents inside. I'll just walk home, i honestly don't care i get in trouble at this point. There's not much they could do to punish me anyway.

On the walk home i decided i would stop at the park, to just get away from everyone. I don't like people seeing me cry, it makes me look weak. That's the last thing i need right now. I learned that lesson, never show weakness. It just makes you a perfect target for bullies and jocks. Since your weak, they want to keep you that way, to boost themselves and keep others below them.

I get to the park and go straight to the swings, me and Jane's swings. As soon as i sat down i burst into tears. I couldn't help it anymore, i'm not strong, i'm weak. I always have been and i always will be. I miss Jane already, i miss her so much. She was the only thing keeping me together, now i'm just broken again. She just came into my life and made me feel happy and loved and needed, then she left. Just like that, she ripped my heart out and shattered it into a million pieces, so quickly i lost my meaning for living. Now i have no reason to live, just like before.
