"How did I get into this school?" Shane asked himself as he looked up at the towering building in front of him. It was gray but had many windows and what seemed like three floors. The large doorways gleamed with the afternoon sun, the ancient wood showing signs of wear.
Every kid here has some ability, some sort of power. Not a lot to say about them though. There are just to many to go through. Just looking around the grounds and Shane could see kids using their gifts. Some flying or moving things with their minds. Like a story about a boy who is super powerful, but just doesn't know yet. Nope not Shane. He was just a guy who's dad had anointed his son the knowledge of how to shoot a gun. Common Sense was Shane's power and somehow that made him special. Everyone has common sense don't they?
Shane had chocolate brown hair with green eyes. His looks typical, his grades typical, and he was smart when it came to choosing the best path. The whole reason Shane was here was because he could do just that.
Looking around at all the wonders another boy came up and tapped his shoulder. "Hey! My name is Carter. What's yours?"
Carter was a big person, broad shoulders and long legs. He had blonde hair and had a deep tan. His brown eyes that seemed to dance.
"My name is Shane. Nice to meet you." Shane stuck out his hand. Carter took it.
"I have to ask you... Why do you have a gun strapped to your waist?" Carter gestured to Shane's waist.
"Oh, this is a tranquilizer gun. No real gun is allowed. I have two actually. One is the tranquilizer and the other shoots rubber bullets." Shane explained pulling the gun out to show Carter.
"Cool, can you give me it?" Carter's eyes began to change colors in a somewhat hypnotic way.
"Why would I give this to you? You can't shoot it and that wouldn't be smart. I am not an idiot."
Carter frowned and glared harder at Shane. Shane peered back up at Carter.
"What about now? Will you give me the gun?" Carter repeated.
"Dude, I told you no way. This is not a toy. You could kill someone if you didn't shoot it properly." Shane strapped the gun back to his waist as he was talking.
Carter frowned. " Why aren't you giving into my wishes? No one can withstand my gaze. Not a thing."
"Dude, it is just common sense. By the way do you know when the assembly is going to start?"
"Yeah in like five minutes. We should probably head there now."
Shane nodded in agreement and he and Carter walked their way towards the doors of the auditorium. There were already a lot of students in the room, chatting with loud voices to be heard over their peers. Shane and Carter found chairs toward the front and sat down.
A few minutes later a old man came on stage and gave a speech no one could understand due to the fact he was not speaking English. When he walked off another teacher came on.
"Students I would like to welcome you to our school. My name is Miss Clan. We are so proud to have so many students this year. Now we do have some changes, as many of you are aware of. We are now letting you take earth classes such as Chorus and Band. We hope that you-"
Miss Clan was cut of by a large explosion and and a man dressed all in pink that had fallen from the hole in the celling.
"Miss me Gwen?" He asked as he stood up.
"What are you doing here? You should be in jail!" Exclaimed Miss Clan.
"I broke out and I am taking over this school." The man walked around the stage circling Miss Clan.
"I was never treated right here at this school. Cast out because I had powers that were unnatural to the rest of you. Now I am going to take my revenge on this school and enforce you to work for me under my rules!"
Shane looked around. Everyone was sitting there waiting for him to stop talking.
"And you know how you are going to pay? With your life! Isn't that fun!"
"This is insanity! You can't do this to me Karl!"
The man pulled out a gun "Say good bye Gw-"
Then the man dropped, and everyone turned to see Shane holding his tranquilizer with is right hand. Still pointing to the stage. The whole room gasped. Miss Clan spoke first.
"Why did you shoot him when he was talking?" She asked.
"You all were going to let Miss Clan die. You could have done something to begin with but you all just sat their doing nothing to stop him." Shane pulled out some rope from his bag and began to walk up to the stage. He began to tie up Karl. "You were going to die and you were just going to let him kill you? No one should do that. And I am sorry I don't care what anyone has to say when they are monologuing. If they start taking you take the chance to kill them you don't wait. I mean what is wrong with you?" Shane finished tying the man up. "It's common sense."
The crowed cheered for him as he walked out of the room. He had respect for the rest of the year at school and most people came to him for advise. Shane did the best he could, but he didn't care that much about it at all. He was known for the rest of that year as the Hero, and was able to befriend Carter. Oh, and the school wasn't attacked again. Other people had heard the story of the kid who wouldn't listen to stories when someone's life was on the line. Or if he had an opening. Shane lived a normal life for someone who loved in a place with super powers, but he was okay for most of it.
