Life isn't what people make it out to be...

I have no family—not anymore at least—and the only person I love is being held captive by the people who raised him. Azul and I first met when Emily (my fake mom) tried to kill me but ended up killing herself instead, and I was sent to the institute in New York to live. I knew instantly that I loved him, however, our love was cut short...

The real reason why I'm living at the palace now with Satsuna and her brother Senri is because my real mom (Amanda) passed the cursed Forbidden Dreams to Jade (my surprise sister) who finally gave it to me.

As far as inheritances go, this one sucks.

                                                                                         ***

Ever since Senri told me that Jade was my sister, I began wondering what other secrets my dad had been hiding from me.

I sat up in bed and glanced over at my best friend Alice who was fast asleep and muttering about Spade. She's been staying at the palace, too. I smiled and climbed out of the princess-sized bed, wrapped up in a silk robe, and made my way out of the room and down the hall. I needed to talk to Senri about what he meant.

I stopped at the door when I heard Satsuna talking. "Why didn't you tell me you knew Jade?" she hissed.

He sighed, "Like I told Rue, sister dear, I thought you knew."

I leaned against the door eavesdropping. There was no way I could've known... I mean, yeah, Jade talks to me in my dreams, but I never imagined her being my sister.

"Rue... What are you doing up?" a small voice whispered.

I rolled my eyes and looked over to see Alice beside me.

"I need answers," I muttered.

She blinked and shook her head. "Can't it wait till morning?"

"You can go back to bed if you want... but I need to know the truth... no matter what." I turned to face the door.

She giggled and wrapped her arms around my shoulders. "I'll be here if you need to cry, I promise."

I smiled. Perhaps I'd been crying too much lately.

"Rue? Did you need something?" Satsuna asked. She was now standing in the open doorway looking confused.

"Um, I need to talk to Senri." I took a step forward.

Senri came up behind his sister. "Of course, Rue." He led me and Alice to the garden, lit only by the moon that shined through the glass ceiling and the gold liquid lanterns on the walls. We sat down on its leaf-shaped chairs. "So, what do you want to know first?"

I sat up straight, "How did you meet Amanda?"

He smiled to himself. "The first time I saw your mother was when she was admitted to the institute. The doctors couldn't control her so she had to be restrained. When she was finally alone, I could hear her mumbling about rabbit soldiers and a curse."

"A curse? You mean the Forbidden Dream?"

The prince nodded, "Yes."

"Did you see my father then?" I asked.

Senri frowned, "I decided not to get involved after that."

"Oh..." I slumped back against the seat. I felt Alice take my hand when he continued.
