Chapter 1: Secret Gift

Alina Starboard was sitting cross-legged on her bed in her room. Light flooded in the room through the open window. A gentle breeze blew through the window and into Alina's face. She sighed with satisfaction and closed her eyes.
Summer...
She thought. She had just finished her 7nth grade year.
Alina opened her eyes as a lock of her long golden hair brushed her face. She smiled.
This summers' going to be the best!
She got off the bed and jumped up to her mirror. Once she got a good look at her reflection she stumbled back.
My eyes!
Her eyes were a brilliant shade of yellow showing her excitement, but now they were a bright blue because she was scared.
How did I do that?
She looked at herself again and now her eyes resembled a curious violet.
Oh! I know!
After a while her eyes were going from red,orange,yellow,green,blue,indigo, and violet.
She heard footsteps and quickly changed her eye color to her usual hazel.
Just in time!
She thought as her twin Helen stumbled in.
Helen had always been the clumsier of the two and was always getting into trouble.
Helen slammed the door and flopped on her bed.
Oh boy...
Alena thought as she heard her twin start to sob into her pillow.
After a while of awkward silence Helen sat up and looked at Alena. She sniffled and said,
"Please get out..."
Being the older one and the wiser one Alena did what she was told before she threw a chair or something at her.
As Alena walked out she vowed never to tell her sister or anyone of her secret gift.
