Nephira...
The water darkened from a bright, sunny blue to a dangerous inky black.
The salty ocean wrapped itself around the shifting werecat, midnight blue fur spreading on the girl as she tried to claw her way up to the surface, but to no avail. The sea had claimed her, and it refused to relinquish its hold.
She struggled, fully feline now, her necklace strangling her as it morphed to take on a more collar-like shape to fit her transformation. The heavy sapphire on the end changed into a gem set in the collar as she struggled for anything but water.
   It was becoming darker.
She kicked her legs hard, trying to gain traction in her current situation, but all hope was lost quickly...
Suddenly her sapphire began to glow, then she felt herself being propelled out of the water.

I jumped up and gasped awake, the usual haunting dream making my necklace glow.
I grabbed it and cupped it in my hands, peering at the soft glow coming seemingly from inside the large gem. It comforted me.
It was a gift from my elder, Famivaki. She was like a grandmother to me, but she was also the tribe psychic. She'd said one day, "Child, I know it's now that I must give this to you. I feel it, deep in my withered bones. Here." In her creaky voice that reminded me of the cedars that surrounded the beach during a storm. The huge gemstone was alone on a golden chain that was enchanted to change as I shifted.
I shook off the nightmare, pulling myself out of bed. It's not like I would be able to go back to bed again tonight anyway.
I left the cabin my family occupied, stepping a cautious foot into the golden sand. The dark and mysterious waves crashed against the shore gently, in a lull that would be comforting to the others in my tribe. The OceanCat tribe. We neighbored the mountain valley where the MountainWolf tribe existed, so we often brought them here to the ocean, to have fun and talk about our treaty.
Not me.
The ocean, I knew, was evil in all of its deathly glory. The moment you turned your back, it would grab onto you and claim you as its own.
Quite recently, a couple werecats had gone missing, seemingly disappearing into thin air. I was convinced that they had drowned, the sea taking their breath like it would take their lives.
I began to pad softly on the shoreline, careful to avoid even one drop of the horrid seawater touching me. The moon was full, like a bright, shining gem in the sky. It was my light, my path.
I felt my golden eyes grow, enlarging into one of a large feline. I itched and my skin prickled, sprouting dark, inky blue fur.
The color of the ocean in a storm. How ironic.
My necklace shifted as well as I did, turning into a collar. I unsheathed my huge claws.
I was now the size of a tiger, with long, wispy dark blue fur. Maybe I resembled a Norwegian Forest Cat, just more feral.
I bolted down the shoreline, getting traction from my claws. I threw up piles of sand, panting. This was my element, speed.
I ran like that for a good hour, silently racing against the wind. Everything was perfect.
Then I saw a figure block out the beautiful moon.
The ocean harbored a titanic black ship, made of a material I did not know. It glided up silently, lights dim on the deck.
I took a breath and a running step to raise the alarm, but a whistling noise stopped me in my tracks. I was tackled sideways, my paws wrapped and I was bundled in something that felt like fishnet.
I was dragged towards the ocean by some unseen force inside of the net. No, not a force, a net had been shot out like a harpoon and captured me, dragging me back mechanically. I struggled.
They were going to pull me into the ocean!
I panicked and thrashed around, putting up a fight, but it was no use. I took a breath right as I was dragged in, then held under the dark, salty death as they towed me in. I was raised up, hitting the side of the ship while I gasped for breath, mewling like a Kit. I caterwauled mournfully, but I doubted anyone awake could hear me. I hit the side of it again, then was pulled up onto the deck. Footsteps approached me, then I vaguely saw a shadow above me.
The deck sparkled in the light of the moon, my sister, mother, and friend all at once.
I was struck over the head, throwing me into unconsciousness.
But right before, the deck glittered, and in that moment I knew what it was made of.
The ship was made of glittering obsidian.
