She was playing me like a violin and she glided like a snake. Following her through the big crowd, I’ve never even seen her face. All I’ve ever seen was her sculpted curves. Wait… Where did she go?! I see her out the door and she turned around, all I could see was her smile and the lift of her hand slowly waving and she quickly walked away. I ran and pushed past all the people in my way then I burst through the door. She was out of sight I ran down the side walk and there it was… That whistle, right behind me and the pitter patter of her heels. Her cold hand brushed my back and I turned around. No one was there, it was just the darkness. Then my friend Dylan touched me making me turn around again.
“WHOA! Man chill out! Who are you looking for?” He asked in suspicion.
The beads of sweat rested on my forehead, I stared at him with a confused expression. Then I came back to my senses, pushed the sweat off of my forehead and breathed.
“No one, just no one.” I exhaled.
It was late so we wanted to get home just before our parents noticed we were even gone. Dylan and I lived in the same area but my house was always the first stop.
“Get some rest Miles, Looks like you really need it.” Dylan said.
I turned and nodded at him, letting out a chuckle.
“Tell me about it.”
I slowly crawled through my window and fell into my bed; I didn’t even feel like taking off my shoes. I just laid there and passed out until I felt someone seductively rub up my leg. I thought it was Dylan being gay like always. I then I remembered I saw him leave 30 minutes ago… I think. I looked down and I saw her eyes smile at me. Stunned from the horror and the thought of how she got in here.
“Who are you?” I asked the girl hiding behind my knee.
She laughed at me and I saw it; her whole face. And she was… Abbey?!
If you’re wondering who she is she’s my neighbors daughter who I madly fell for a year back. But after she got caught up with the wrong guy she kind of disappeared a year ago. Not a trace of her was found, it was kind of like she dropped off the face of the earth. But many girls who get caught up with Roman never really want to leave his side it was more like a trance.
“Abbey, where have you been? Your parents are devastated they’ve been breaking their necks looking for you.”
She shot up like a startled child and walked towards my window, glanced at me directing me to follow her. I looked at my door and thought to myself and then she snapped her fingers, clapped her hands and waved her arms rapidly.
“Be quiet! My parents might hear you.”
Abbey rolled her light brown eyes and pulled me off of my bed and dragged me with her.
“They won’t hear a thing just come and stop messing around.” She chimed.
We climbed down the rose fence she was the first down and then she ran off. I tried to move faster to catch up but by time I was down she was gone. I ran a block down and I didn’t see anything but the late night fog.
“Psst! Over here!” I heard Abbey whisper.
I looked to my right, then my left, turned to look behind me and then I turned back to my front and there she was in my face with this deadly stare. She always got that stare when she was getting really testy like a 4 year old not getting its way. She then grabbed my hand and pulled me further down to the right where the woods usually are.
“Okay! Can we stop?! Where the hell are taking me?” I asked in suspicion.
“No stopping, we need to go there now. No wasting time, I’ve wasted enough of that with these stupid antics let’s just go.” She snapped.
I looked confused dragging my feet behind her.
“What in god’s name are you talking about?! You sound nuts I hope you know that.”
She looked back and laughed, I couldn’t help but smile because it was just contagious. By now we have reached the woods but she turned down this dark street I’ve never really adventured myself. I felt my stomach sink because I just felt trouble was near.
“Abbey this is a bad idea I think it’s time to turn back.”
She kept going not acknowledging one word I just said. She took me to the old city bridge; it’s pretty dangerous out here only idiots come down this way. Then she stopped in the middle of the bridge and we stared into the water.
“Promise me something?” Abbey said.
I glanced at her deadly serious face.
“What?” I asked.
“You will always remember the old times we had together.” And she looked at me and took my hand.
“I never stopped thing about them, Abbs what are you talking about?”
She looked into the water and sighed.
“Almost a year ago, Roman and I went to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. On the way to the restaurant he took me here and asked me ‘Are you seeing someone else?’ I was confused. Yea he knew I had a thing for you but it never gotten that far after I met him so I told him no. He took a deep breath, got out of the car and leaned on the hood. I got out of the car seeing if he was okay. I went to comfort him and he grabbed me and pushed me against this railing. Roman has an obsessive personality, when he gets something he wants no one else can touch it, see it, or even think about it while ‘it’ was in his ‘possession.’ I could see in his eyes pure emotion, like he wanted to believe me but the fact that I actual had feelings for you just pushed all of that out of the way. But that’s not the only thing that was being pushed off that night.”
I stared at her; I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Is this a joke? Was she screwing with my head?
“Did he pus-“ She cut me off.
“I slipped over the railing and almost fell in but Roman grabbed me. We were both terrified and then he slipped and fell in together. It’s like that a cheesy teenage Romeo and Juliet of modern times but really it was all just and accident. We didn’t want to die.”
She began to cry, I pulled her in as a few tears fell from my eyes onto her shoulders. She looked up at me, and I whipped her eyes.
"I could have protected you. But it was me who got you hurt.” I said chocking on the tears I was fighting to hold in.
“No you didn’t hurt me, fate did. I always knew I was going to die young, why do you think I always cherished every moment I had, and that’s why I want you to do the same. Take our memories and hold on to them for me and especially for you.”
She pulled my head down and laid a gentle kiss on my forehead, I closed my eyes and that’s when the tears streamed. When I wiped my damp face and opened my eyes she was gone. The only thing left was her sweet flowery scent, and I felt forehead to see if what just happened was real. Her perfect lip mark couldn’t be more noticeable to the human eye.
