Its sunday morning and I am lying in my bed. Deep asleep and lost in my dreams when a beam of light strikes my face. The noise of curtains being pulled and someone shouting "Wake up, Sakshi, wake up" fills my ears. I open my eyes with a sudden jerk only to notice my room lighted with morning sunlight and fresh air coming in. I saw an angry looking beautiful lady standing in the corner of my room, waiting for me to speak something. She is none other then my mom who is as frustrated as always . I make a sad face and say sorry for troubling her again. She quickly asks me to get up and get ready for the breakfast and leaves the room with a smile on her face.
So here I am, trying to wake up from my dreams and come into the real world. Another week is going to come to an end with my life not entering any interesting turn. The hectic monotonous office routine is going to start again from tomorrow. I really need a break from all this. With this thought in my mind, I left my bed and rushed to the loo to do my morning business. I took a quick shower and wore a T-shirt and a lower and went downstairs for breakfast.
At the breakfast table I was greeted with good mornings from my dad and my brother, Akash. He is my lovely bitch buddy cum lifeline without whom our family is incomplete. He as always is busy in his phone playing some stupid game and my dad is reading his morning newspaper. Suddenly my mom calls out for me from the kitchen to take the breakfast for everyone. We settle down and have our breakfast with pin drop silence. This is the usual morning in my house as per our house rules. After we finished our breakfast, dad left for his office ( yes there is no Sunday for businessman) and mom went to do her work. Akash went to his room and I picked my coffee mug and went to my favorite place, my room balcony.
Okay so it's time to finally introduce myself. I am Sakshi and I am 23 yrs old. I belong to one of the well reputed agarwal family of Delhi. Currently I am working in a MNC as a business analyst. I have a passion for dance and love to read and write sometimes. I love driving and being alone sometimes. I do not have lot of friends but few who are really close to me. Will make them meet you when time comes.
Ya so coming to my family, we are just four people. Me, my dad , my mom and my stupid brother. My dad , Mr. Rakesh Agarwal is a calm, sorted guy in his mid -40s. He manages our entire business spread all over India single handidly. It's his passion to never stop working irrespective of what happens. He believes in expanding and giving opportunities to new young talent. I am really proud of him and admire him for his dedication and love for his work. He has managed to build the entire empire on his own over the years.
My mom, Mrs. Suman Agarwal is a housewife. She manages everything like every lady does. She has given us very good values and taught us different lessons of life from time to time. It is her motivation and support that makes me who I am now. My father was not very supportive of my education and me working somewhere. The stereotype of not educating girls and not using their salary is still followed in my house. Though I have changed few things, a lot is yet to be changed. Since childhood, my mom has told me that I should never give up on my dreams and fight till the end to achieve them. She has told me that after my masters I should be mentally prepared to get married and accept the fact that by hook or crook this thing cannot be changed. My friends say it is a typical baniya family mentality but I say what is the harm in it. Your parents will never think anything bad for you. If you have to get married even after few years than why not now. On the other hand I also believe that yes I am mentally prepared to get married but a year more of freedom won't make any big difference. Will it?😊
Here I am busy in my own thoughts and telling you about my family when I hear a loud sound of thunder. Within a blink of an eye , it started raining heavily and I could not control myself. Monsoon is my favorite season and I just love getting wet in rains, playing games and singing loudly. I hurriedly rushed out of my room and called akash.
He had his earphones on when I entered his room. I literally asked him to get up and dragged him outside. We both love rains but sometimes he is too stubborn to handle. The feeling of first drops of water on my body felt so heaven. We stayed there for a while, played our favorite football and got all messed up. We were busy enjoying our moment when my mom shouted and asked us to get inside.
She pulled my ears and shouted "Sakshi, enough of your childish behavior. Get inside right now and dare you touch anything. Remove your shoes outside and go straight away to the bathroom and take bath. Both you and your brother are going to get ill and I don't want you to catch cold in this weather. I don't know when are you going to behave like an adult. Here me and your dad are looking boys for you and look at you, behaving like a 4 year old girl." The moment I heard that, I felt a pain somewhere in my stomach. I just felt as if something is going to be snatched away from me very soon, something which is very close to me, something I cannot live without, my freedom, my happiness, my carefree attitude.
I stood there silent for a while and then reality hit me. I was about to argue with her for not scolding Akash who was equal partner in this crime but preferred not to say anything. Typical mommy scolding . You cannot really win how so long you try to keep your point. Akash sensed the tension and turmoil going inside me and pulled me inside the house. I felt little depressed even after having a rain dance. Is this how life changes? Things which you loved since birth are right there in front of you but they don't bother you anymore. I wanted a change in my monotonous daily routine but marriage??...Is that the only step I can take right now?...Am I actually prepared to get married or its just my parents who think so that I am ready? I don't know what God has kept in store for me but I believe that if not all then at least few of my dreams will definitely come true.
You must be wondering what dreams I am talking about. I will tell you as time comes. With so much going on in my head, I entered my room and picked up a fresh towel and went to take bath. Mom will shout again if she finds me sitting in my room with wet clothes on. I took a warm shower and let the talks going on in my head wash away with the water. I put my dirty clothes in the laundry bag and put fresh clothes on. I came out of the bathroom to find Akash lying on my bed.
All bedsheet crumbled and he lying on the bed with his shoes on. I shouted on him and asked him to move his ass right away from my bed. He denied and rubbed his shoe on my bed. That was enough for me to beat the shit out of him. These stupid brothers can never behave . They keep finding new tactics to irritate you but will never stop. I threw a cushion on him and in a matter of second, we started having a pillow fight. We kept throwing pillows at each other. I even threw newspapers at him which were kept by the bedside. We fought for like 15 min and then finally got tired and broke on my bed. His head lied on my tummy and we kept laughing for our stupid fight after so long.
Yes it has been long time since we have had some serious talk or spent hours with each other just talking about random stuff. After Akash started his college 2 years back, he is been really busy with friends and his so called classes. Earlier I use to know each of his friend but now things have changed. He speaks less. He has become a bit of introvert and keep things to himself. Maybe he is growing and it's the hormones that are changing him. Whatever, I still love him and he means the world to me.
While laughing, suddenly a tear rolled out of his eye and I was shocked to see him in tears . They were not the tears of happiness but he felt sad. Something was bothering him and it pinched me that being an elder sister, I didn't know what it was. I shook him and he wiped his tears. I asked him what happened and why is he crying. To this he gave such a beautiful reply which I will remember for my entire life. He said,
"Di, I know I am not the best brother you could have had. I had been very self obsessed lately and have not shared lot of things with you. You on the other hand had made all efforts so that our bond doesn't change and we love each other like always. Di after mom said that they are looking a guy for you, I was shocked. How can you get married so soon. I have so much to learn from you and we have to explore so many things. I know we have no right to say anything in front of maa and papa but I want to say one thing to you. I know I am younger but I am your brother and I will protect you from anything that disturbs you. In no time you will be asked to meet guys but please don't make any stupid decision due to any pressure. I will always stand next to you and support you in any way possible. From today, I promise you that I will fulfill all my duties of being a brother and will not fight with you until someone takes you away from me."
With a tear in my eye , I hugged him tightly and thanked god for giving me such a caring brother. I slapped him slightly out of love and asked him to never cry again and no one is going to take us apart anytime soon. I hugged him tighter and we sat there I don't for how long talking about everything from his college to his crushes.
