Miner Strike Declared! Thatcher still determined! 'They must not win'

David sat listening to the radio, eating a bacon sandwich. What was the point in causing violence when the government always won. It wasn't as if he'd ever had any confrontations with the Prime Minister before; he couldn't see how a person with lots of power and influence could lose a battle like this.

"MAM!" Jessica called, "DAD!"

Lizzie walked down the stairs with David's daughter, thoroughly disgruntled.

"Tell your daughter that she can get a bloody move on and -"

"Language, mam." Jessica added cheekily.

"Shut up!" She yelled in her northern accent.

David sighed and said:" We're on strike."

Jessica snorted in response and tugged her sleeve out of her mum's grip.

"Congratulations?" Lizzie said, looking uncertain.

"I'll be going then." David sighed.

He kissed his wife's cheek and ruffled his daughter's hair before jogging out the door.

The sky was grey and reflected his mood.

"Mornin' David!" Called one of my fellow miners.

"Mornin' Al." He replied grudgingly and walked away.

Radios were tuned in to the bbc, neighbors cheering whenever the strike was mentioned.

To say David wasn't pleased would be a lie; he was over the moon but with nothing left to do.

With mining, there was often unexpected little errors, nothing major, but enough to supply a little risk.

David was always a reckless man, although he tried not to show it. Lizzie married a wild man but after           Jessica was born, he hid is true self so as not to harm is daughter.

Newspapers were flying through doors quicker than lightning; the news spread fast. Everyone had seemed to come together, ready to fight the enemy.
David seemed to know that the happiness wouldn't last.

"Your no fun, Dad!" Jessica whined, lying on the table.

"Leave your father alone, Jessica." Lizzie shooed her away and chucked out of date fish in the bin.

"Without the energy there won't be time to cook anything. Or see... Or anything, really..." David trailed off as his wife placed a kiss on his lips.

"I'm proud of you, David." She smiled, placing two sandwiches on the table.

Just as he was about to take a bite, Lizzie turned pale and ran to the sink.

"Sweetie?" David held her hair back, closing her eyes at the sick.

"I'll go to the doctors tomorrow." She splashed warm water on her face. "That's twice this week."

"But it's only Monday!"

"Exactly. "

"Surely it's just an illness?"

"No. I've read books about it. I need to go to a doctor."

"Books about what?" He asked as she walked up the stairs, leaving him in the dark.

And scene!
