Chapter 1- How Lynn Begins

Lynn is 6 

December 10th 8472

I'm scared. Mom says we have to leave now.We can't even pack. I'm thirsty. Mom says they know my secret. She's sending Rose and I to this place. She keeps talking about how I could make new friends like Rose and I. You know like people with our secret. Mom says she can't come. Rose is crying her green eyes look so sad. She wants to tell her parents bye. Rose was adopted. Her parents and she looked completely different. Rose is tall and pale with freckles under her bright green eyes. Both of her parents are tan and neither one has freckles or green eyes. Her parents don't know the secret. My mom and I look a lot alike, even though mom says I have my dad's intelligent blue eyes. I have her wavy brown hair. Dad had to leave when I was really little. I barely remember what he looked like. Once when Mom and Dad said they knew the secret we all moved, just not together. I don't want to leave mom, I want her to come or I want to stay. I don't want to leave! Dad already left me. Now mom is sending to this place called, "Mission HTH" and she says Rose has to come so they won't find her, either.

The Next Day

December 11th 8472

Mom, Rose, and I are driving to "Mission HTH". Rose fell asleep. Mom says it will take eight hours to get there by automobile. We just passed my favorite food place. It has three secret rooms. The secret rooms are places you can only enter if you have me and Rose's secret. I remember the first time mom took me there, Rose was with us. To get to the secret rooms you had to go up a flight of stairs, around a hallway, and down another flight of stairs, then we had to go through a bookcase door and finally we were at the actual food place the front is just so that they (people without the secret) don't get suspicious. I think the food place is called Haley's Food. I was three then. I remember after eating mom took us to a play school. It had some really cool toys. I found a flying car toy, It actually flew! I asked the teacher about it she said that a really long time ago people tried to make cars fly but there were too many people who crashed into things so in order to keep the world safe the government made the cars illegal. she also told me the roads used to be made a rock and not metal; sidewalks didn't used to be everywhere, and they weren't just made of dirt in the 21st century.

December 13th 8472

Dear Mom,

I miss you. I hope I see you soon. I heard you are moving back with daddy. Tell him I said hi. HTH is weird. I wish you were here.

December 14th 8472

There's a lot of people here. Ned showed around so we would know where the cafe, bathroom, and bedroom are. When our new friend, Elly, Rose and I went to breakfast there had to be a least a thousand people there. Ned said they all had the same secret as us. Ned showed us a table of kids our age. The table was full four to six year olds. We had a lot to eat.

December 15th 8472

First we ate. Then we went to to game room and played chess. Next we went to the gym and played dodgeball with the older kids. Then Elly and I hid from Rose and bought game and some of her favorite candy for her birthday, which is in two days.

December 17th 8472

Today is Rose's birthday. Everyone sang happy birthday to her and she got gifts and chocolate cake from all the leaders except yellow. I don't think there is a yellow leader. Rose got some gifts from some of her new friends.

May 9th 8473

Today is my birthday I got gifts from Justin, Elly, Rose, the leaders, and a few other people. We had my favorite, strawberry cake. Purple leader, Ned said now that I'm seven years old I get my color and code name. Yes! Finally just like Elly. Elly's color is purple- I forget what her code is she got hers on March 23rd which was her 7th birthday. My color is red; my code is 125Azpl. I have to go tell Justin and Rose.
