Those Green Eyes Pierced my Soul

The Background

          Ever since Castiel had started High School it had been hell. He was about to start his junior year, except this year he was in a wheelchair after he was beaten nearly to death at school. He had came out to his former friend that he was gay his freshman year and that friend pretty much told everyone and he got hell for it. Cas was mostly able to hide the bullying from his family before his near death experience last year. Little did Castiel know how much this year would change, because one seemingly unimportant guy who would come into his life. This teenager would be one of the most important people in Castiel's life.

Let's start with Castiel's near death experience

Castiel's P.O.V

After 8th hour P.E. we came in the locker room to get changed, I grabbed my clothes and went into the showers, I hated changing in front of everyone I was pale and scrawny. After I had taken my shirt off I felt someone behind me and went to turn around but before I could my head was slammed into the porcelain tiles. "You are such a fucking faggot!". I heard someone say, I think it was Crowley. I couldn't really tell because my ears were ringing. I tried to pull away but there was no where to go. It happened so fast but then all of Crowley's friends jumped me. Next thing I know I am laying in a pool of blood and I can't feel my legs, my heads pounding and it hurts like hell to breathe. I'm fighting to stay awake when I faintly hear my name being called, I am pretty sure it's Gabriel and I try to call back to him but all that comes out is my blood from my mouth. I feel someone lifting me and taking me outside, suddenly I am laid in a seat and I hear mumbles outside the car, my vision is blurry but it is definitely Gabriel's car. I want to relax but I know I need to stay awake. I can feel Gabe climb into the car and I know he is talking to me but I can't really understand him, I try to talk back but nothing comes out and I guess I passed out.

Gabriel's P.O.V

It has been 30 minutes since school had ended and I was waiting on my little brother Castiel, it wasn't like him to take so long. I had a bad feeling so finally I decided to go find him, I immediately checked the locker room and notice the smell of blood, and my heart sank. I ran into the showers and saw Cas curled up in a scary large pool of blood. I ran over to him and checked for a pulse, thank god he is alive. "Cas what the hell happened!?". All I got was a gurgled response and blood came out of his mouth. I was able to pick him up, he screamed in pain I had to get him to a hospital. I rushed him out to my car ignoring looks from teachers and I was able to lay him in the front seat next to me. As I went around to the other side car to get int driver's seat I fished my phone out of my pocket and called our sister Anna who raised us. I knew she was working but I needed to at least leave a message. "Anna! It's Gabe, listen I don't know what happened but Cas is hurt bad, I am taking him to the Emergency room now.". I hung up and then tried talking to Cas to keep him awake, and to calm myself down. After what felt like forever I finally pulled into the Hospital Parking lot. I parked in front of the Emergency doors and jumped out of the car and ran to get Cas out of the car, he had passed out at some point. A nurse noticed and ran inside to get help, they rushed him off somewhere and wouldn't let me go with him. One of the male nurses had tried to ask me what happened, but I had no clue. Anna arrived at the hospital just after they told me they were taking Cassie into surgery, Anna was freaking out and even though on the inside I was too, I needed to keep her calm. It felt like forever before a nurse came to talk to us. "You are Castiel's siblings right?". Anna and I nodded a bit and the nurse went on. "Castiel has suffered major head trauma, he broke several ribs, a piece of his rib splintered off and lodged into his spine. We aren't sure what that will mean yet, but for now he is on a ventilator to help him breathe, we also had to drain blood from his lungs. He has severe swelling in his brain and we aren't sure if he will even wake. He is on an IV with medicine to try and reduce the swelling in his brain and the ventilator in the ICU. There are machines that are keeping him alive right now. If you guys want to see him you may but I had to warn you."

I grabbed Anna in my arms because I noticed she was about collapse, I eased her into a chair and moved her hair from her face, and in a very soft tone I told her, "You come in when you are ready Anna. Okay". Anna nodded a little and I could tell she wanted to cry but she was trying to be strong. I nodded to the nurse to lead the way and she took me to Castiel's room. I thought I was prepared to see Castiel like this but I wasn't. When I saw him I felt such anger and all I wanted to do was kill the guys who did this to him. After I took a deep breath I went over to him and took his hand. After a few days of being constantly in the hospital without much change to Castiel's condition, I was in the room with him when he started to open his eyes. I could see the panic in his eyes and I rubbed the back of his hand. "It's going to be okay Cassie. I'm right here. Anna is at work. You are in the hospital." My voice seemed to calm him a bit and once I reassured him that I would be right back I ran to get the nurse and soon the room was busy with nurses and doctors. Once they were sure Castiel was able to breathe on his own, they went ahead and took him off the ventilation. By the end of the day Castiel was off the ventilator and his legs weren't responding to any stimulation. By the end of the week we found out he was paralyzed from the waist down, and he would likely never walk again. He wasn't able to go back to school so we got his homework and he finished out the year at home. We had to find him a school that was wheelchair friendly, which we did over the summer. He was nervous but I could tell he also felt better about not having to go back to our old school. The guys who attacked him were charged with attempted murder and other stuff. I graduated and so I would take Cas to and from school.
