First day of high school, you love it, but you don't because it always bring a dreadful knot in the pit of your stomach, since it brings the end of summer, a stressful day of trying to find where your classes are, and finding out that the rest of the year is basically ruined. When I entered my fourth period class, and everyone got settled, Mrs. Hladig announced from the front of the classroom, "Class, there will be a year long project and I already have the partners organized. When I call you and your partner's name, please come up and find your seats." So great, first day of social study and already it sucks because now I have to sit by someone I don't even know. "Jake and Annabelle...," as the teacher called out names, I got my phone out and started playing Stack, until I got notified that my friend Feria just sent me a snap on Snapchat. While I was snapping away at Feria, I didn't hear the teacher call my name, until, "You, in the back, tell the class what you're texting and to whom you were texting, then put your phone away. Tell us your name first," scolded Mrs. Hladig. "My name is Whin and I wasn't texting, I was snapchatting. There is a difference between the two. And I can't reveal the name of the person because there're a minor," I responded. Then I grabbed my backpack and went up to the front of the room to get my seating spot, as well as to find out who had the pleasure of being my partner.
Walking to my seat, My eyes came upon the most exquisite female, who was sitting at my table, and I thought, so this must be Phenix. She had the most luxurious hair I had ever seen, it was long and black, straight, without a single strand out of place, but it wasn't severe looking, it seemed to have a free and careless life of its own. Her skin was a healthy cream color, and looked appealingly smooth to the touch. I had the first impression of her being a smart, rich, and bitchy type of girl, however, I was proven wrong, when I saw her smile. I wanted so badly to express my love to her through Bruno Mars's, Just the Way You Are, however, I didn't because I can't sing and I didn't want to humiliate her nor embarrass myself. Upon closer inspection, her appearance was flawless, not a single ounce of fat on her, and her limps looked proportional to the rest of her body.
"Okay class, we can get started." Mrs. Hladig announced, after I set down and while she was walking to the Smart Board, "I want you to introduce yourself to your partner, take notes on how they introduced themselves, and how they reacted to your introduction." She turned the Smart Board Projector on, and displayed the instructions on the board. I got out my binder, and flipped to the "In-Class Notes" section of it. "I'll go first," Phenix stated, "My name is Phenix Doan, but people call me Phoenix. I'm 14, but going to be 15 on the twenty-eighth of December this year, and I have a brother." I wrote everything she said down, word for word. After she finished, I had a fleeting moment of wanting to take her hands and fly away with her because she had the voice of an angel and spoke in a soft, sweet, and hearty tone. Apparently I was staring at her because she prodded me, "Um, it's your turn." It took me a few seconds to register what she said and then I introduced myself, "Sorry, my name is Whin, some people and my friends spell it as W-E-N. I was adopted from Shanghai, China at the age of 7. I danced and played the piano for 5 years. I also took art lessons at the Des Moines Art Center during the school year, and used to take tumbling at Chows Gymnasium in the summer, however, I was and still am not very good." As I finished, I could tell that she was bored, and didn't exactly took much interest me, which I guess was normal since it is the first day of school.
When it seemed as if the whole class was done, Mrs. Hladig scrolled the instruction down and read "Now, I want you guys to tell each other what you wrote down and copy your partner's notes into your own notes, so that you may write a reflection over the various behaviors and how it impacted the way other saw you for the first time." Of course the teacher had to make us do this and my notes were not for the public, but of course I still had to share them. "You're going first this time," Phoenix said while grabbing my binder and looking at it without asking for my permission. "I will be reading it," I said as I retrieved my notes from her prying hand. "So, from my observation, you spook very well, however, you didn't share your favorite actives or hobbies, and you seemed shy because you did not make eye contact with me." As I was finishing this sentence, I had a feeling that the next part would not earn me points with her, but I still read it out loud, "My first impression of you was that you were an a Barbie doll because you are flawlessly beautiful. I also loved your voice because of its harmony and smoothness. You have an exquisite physical appearance. Wow, you're beautiful." When I finished, I handed my notes to her so that she could copy it into her own binder.
About five minutes later, she handed my binder back to me and said, "My first impression of you was that you are a dork and you don't deserve anyone because all you care about is yourself and having your sexual desires fulfilled." What? What kind of observation is that? Wow she is a rude bitch, I thought to myself as she spoke. I was not liking her notes, but the next statement was not bad and actually seemed a compliment, "However, I did find it fascinating that you were adopted from China, and the I liked how you maintained a professional tone when you spoke. I assume from the introduction, you are smart and normally not this hyped therefore, I hope next time we meet, we can start off on a better ground." After she finished giving her synopsis, Phoenix gave me her notes for me to copy. I also saw that she put her phone number in her notes about me, and without questioning it, I also copied that down. Then I handed her notes back to her and started packing up.
Before the bell rang, Mrs. Hladig handed everyone the class syllabus and handed out the homework schedule. "I hope all of you got more comfortable working with your partner and the comments you had for each other wasn't that nerve wrecking and hurtful. Thanks for a great first day, and you may leave." As she finished, the bell rang and everyone left the room. I walked down the stairs and walked out the building, I headed for the buses by the curve, that would drive me back to my homeschool, Roosevelt High School.
