She was born at 2:30 in the morning. A young baby, eyes already a dark, nutty brown. Wrapped up in cheap cotton, tufts of silky, ebony hair peeking from her scalp and pale olive-toned skin. Born to two agelasts, both theives in their own right. Pickpockets, bullies but regrettably very good liars.
And that baby lay there, in her blankets. Asleep and daydreaming of a future that would be bright, happy and wonderful. Her mind was unscathed, unharmed. A blank canvas where the unfortunate events of the next years would be etched.
And her parents named her Eponine. Eponine Thenardier, a name as charming as any other. It was a shame really.
And then there was Madame Thenardier. Short, stout and with a tangle of orange hair fell down past her ribs, which were not visible under the layers of skin and clothing. Monsieur Thenardier was almost the complete opposite. Tall with dark hair and pointed features. Never-the-less, they were both equally cruel.
They had brought a child into the world. A child, who would suffer more than maybe anyone. And she would hate them.
