I shrugged my black backpack over my shoulder and shut my locker. Gripping my books I blew a piece of hair out of my face and started down the long hallway sending a small smile to some people who glanced. It was dark outside, not uncommon for Portland at 3:00 pm. The air was damp and made your skin feel clammy in that way that was almost comforting in a sense. My shoes scuffed against the sidewalk every few steps. I grabbed my granola bar and started snacking as I made my way off campus and to the small opening in the woods that cut through to my home. This was definitely the best part of my walk home, small blossoms were starting to peek through on some trees signalling early signs of spring. A light rain started so I picked up my pace a bit. I spotted a grey cat cross my porch as I came up the few steps to my door. I fumbled for my lanyard which held the three keys I needed. My house, my locker, and the Inn. I shoved the key in the latch and pushed on the door stepping into my small house. I kicked off my shoes shoving them to fit to the wall and made my way to the kitchen. Setting my bag on the counter, I grabbed a cup and filled it with cold water. I leaned against the island and slowly sipped from my cup, glancing at the small room. Our tiny oven that had slightly crooked knobs, the microwave that squeezed perfectly into the small space over the stove, the yellow flowers intended to boost the atmosphere of the room. I rinsed out my cup and set it back in the cabinet checking the time before heading to my room. I set my bag in the corner and opened my closet to reveal my somewhat lacking wardrobe. I sifted to the end and grabbed my all to familiar green collared shirt that displayed the small Inn logo and black skirt. Removing my sweater and jeans I slipped my uniform on and moved to the small white vanity that held most of my make up and hair tools. Running my fingers through the front of my hair I pulled it up into a high ponytail securing it with a black elastic. I swiped a fresh coat of mascara over my lashes and covered up the few blemishes that littered my face. I squirted a sweet perfume on myself and left the room. I flipped the light on to my bathroom and quickly brushed my teeth. I tucked in the end of my shirt and straightened out the front pleats of my skirt. I grabbed my lanyard and headed to the front door where I slipped on my short black heals. My phone in hand, I locked the front door and started on my way to the Roadside Inn.
