His smirk sinks into my skin as he stares at me from across the room. A blush rises to my cheeks, heating up my face and turning my ears red. I avert my eyes, staring down at my paper trying to sort the numbers out in midst of my scattered brain. I can still feel his smile penetrating my back, no doubt remembering our conversation from last night.
We had sat on a blanket in the garden behind his house, after he had practically kidnapped me by politely ringing the doorbell and charming my parents. All it took was a smile, and they were wrapped around his finger. In fact, my parents suddenly were encouraging me to let the bad boy they had once warned me about take me out. I was infuriated.
But I was also infatuated.
This boy's grin made me hot. The way his hands flitted over my own was soft but firm, gently holding me in place among the countless girls he dated. I loved the way his gaze searched my face when he said something particularly suggestive, and the smirk that came after. The way he gripped my thigh while driving made me crazy. His recklessness, his desire for adventure, his passion killed me softly.
I sigh as I sense his presence next to me, and I turn my eyes up to his perfect face.
"So how bout that date?" He suggests so casually. My eyes automatically roll. Did he not consider last night a date? I had only narrowly avoided a kiss at the door.
The chair slides out next to me and takes my hand in his own as he sits. My heart patters against my chest, the blush once again rising. His touch ignites a fire in me, and I briefly wonder if I'll ever be able to subdue the flames. I feel my eyes flit over his face. Does he feel it too?
He passes me an unbelievable smile, his minty breath flooding my senses. I return it.
"Last night wasn't a date?" I tease, and his chuckle rings out across the otherwise quiet room, drawing the eyes of many students.
"Babe, I think we both know we can do better than a lame picnic in my backyard," I momentarily frown. I hadn't thought it was lame. My mind jumps to the way his eyes were on me as I pointed up at the stars, showing him the constellations. I can still feel his gaze, the heaviness of his hands over mine, and the beating of his heart against my cheek as I laid my head on his chest. No, it wasn't lame at all.
The end of third period jerks me out of my memory. And I find myself pulling my hand from his in attempt to flee the situation. Truthfully, he made me entirely too nervous.
The 4 minutes between third hour and fourth hour were the worst. The halls were flooded with people, potentially everyone in school. I had the longest distance to travel, all the way across the long school, to make it to my history class. As expected I found myself late again.
The halls were empty as the final bell rang. Cursing under my breath, I look down at my feet and pick up the pace. I didn't have time to react before my head collided with a large chest, my books scattering to the floor. I pull away, my hand caressing the sore spot on my hairline.
The face looking down at me is familiar and suddenly, I'm encased in a cloud of his scent. His face close to mine, inspecting the bruise forming on my head, looks serene. He wasn't surprised by our collision, in fact, he may have caused it on purpose.
"I'm late for class" I whisper, and his gaze meets mine as I tear him from his thoughts. His nose touches mine as he tilts his gaze down, our lips only an inch apart. I'm suddenly conscious of his hands, one holding my waist, the other gripping my hip in a possessive manner.
"I didn't think I would hurt you," he whispers back. I can feel his breath on my lips, causing me to inhale sharply. My heart is beating, I'm sure he can feel it. I squeeze my eyes shut as I realize his is beating hard too, maybe even faster than mine. I'm caught in a wave of dizziness, and my hands tighten on his biceps. I'm forgetting to breathe because of him. He literally takes my breath away.
I was sure he was going to kiss me.
I was sure of it.
