"Miss Blood!" I felt a cool mist on my face.
"Miss Blood!"
I resisted the urge to growl and show my fangs as I lifted my head off of my arms.
"See me after class, Miss Blood," said my teacher, Mrs. Knight.
"Yes, ma'am," I replied through clenched teeth, a little sleepily I might add.
"Now, can anyone tell me the square root of seven?" she asked the class. Hands flew up. "Clare?"
"You can't take the square root of seven. Seven's prime." Clare Ivy was the smartest girl in the freshman class. For all we knew, she was the smartest girl in the whole school. Clare was actually going to graduate a couple of years before her class. She was thirteen and a freshman in high school. Yeah, she got teased a lot, but that's high school for you. I hated it. I also couldn't stand to see Clare cry either. That's why I made her part of our group. Needless to say, nobody teases her anymore. Everybody's afraid of us, with good reason. You don't mess with The Extras. Being the most feared group at school kind of rocks. Nobody getting in your business and nobody wants to get close enough to you to even find out your eye color, much less your deepest, darkest secret. That's why Clare's safe with us. We've all met her parents and hung out with them. They love us because we keep her out of trouble, we protect her, and we're just like her. Most people hate us, including teachers, probably because we're not afraid to get into a fight over our friends. There's one teacher that chooses one of us to hate above the others. I think the teacher that hates me the most is Mrs. Knight. I don't know why. It might have something to do with her being my neighbor. Oh, well....I'll figure it out later.
