"I can't get out! I can't escape! This is the END of me! I need to find a way--"
"Shhhhh..." the librarian said. "This is a library, not an arcade. Grab a book or get out." This was how the very intelligent librarian spoke. He liked his library quiet, so that he could focus on completing his own book he was reading. Every few minutes, the librarian would look up from his book up to the wall to see his plaque, which had engraved on it,
"NEIL O'CONNOR
Founder and Librarian of Arizona's largest library, Mystery Valley Library"
Neil was very proud of this accomplishment. Under that plaque was yet another plaque stating "Arizona's Smartest Man!". This was a fact. His IQ was 174. He admired himself, but not in a boastful way. Neil kept himself good-looking, trimming his blond beard and dressing in high quality suits, which made his tall, slim body stand out in a crowd. He respected himself. Neil looked at the clock. 5:55. Five minutes till closing! Neil always tried to finished one book every work day, and two when he got home. "And The Phoenix was killed and everyone lived in peace...THE END!" exclaimed Neil as he finished his book. "God, that was an excellent story." After Neil's excitement started to die down, he noticed something that made him cringe and squirm. He squinted and narrowed his eyes, then muttered in a disgusted tone, "Filthy smartphone users." He listened closely to the teenagers having a conversation.
"O-M-G, Taylor! That selfie turned out soooooo #perfect!" one of the teenage girls said.
Neil vomited in his mouth. When he was their age, he would read non-stop, just like now, but back then, the only form of the Internet they had was the early iMac and that awful, AWFUL dial-up tone. Yes, he uses the Internet, but at the age of 36, he doesn't treat his phone like it's his last hope. After scoffing and mumbling angrily, the clock finally hit 6:00, and now everyone gets to go home!
"Come on girls, time to leave." he said, shooing the teenagers away. As he locked up the library, with several new books in his arm to bring home and put on his shelves, he thought of the great new books getting shipped in everyday, and wondering what the next mystery will be to arrive in his library.
